How to Optimize Your Squidoo Lens for the Search Engines

Your title should be keyword rich and your first 300 words should be keyword rich. Most of your time when writing your lens should be spent on getting the right keywords in this first 300 words. Search Engine Optimization can be made or broken in the title and first 300 words. I personally use Google's Keyword Tool. You could also use - Word Tracker or even Trellian etc. There are lots of free keyword tools on the internet. Find one that you look to use. But your title and your first 300 words (or so, it doesn't have to be 300 words exactly.) are the most important words for the search engine to index. You should pay as much attention to these keywords as you possibly can. It is time consuming but it is worth the time and effort.

You should also be willing to change these keywords, as people come to your website. The stats are very important for this, pay close attention to the keywords that people use to find your lens.

If you want to rank high in Google, you will also have to consider links and backlinks. This is imperative if you want to boost your Google ranking. Take a look at 3WayLinks.net Subscription for showing you how to get those links! You need traffic and this is how to get it.

Links and Backlinks

In order to rank high in Google, this should be looked at seriously

This is one of the most important elements in Google page ranking that you should consider. Links and backlinks are important, and you should spend a good part portion of your marketing time on this. I go to relevant high ranking blogs and leave comments on them. You will also will not believe the visitors we get from the blogs! I was totally blown away when we had a sale at our store from one of these visitors. Not only was I trying to increase our links, but we were also selling products. This is when I was really sold on linking. We get several sales a month from these links, which is really nice. You should seriously take a look at this 3WayLinks.net Subscription for links and backlinks.

For your squidoo lenses you should also be joining the groups at squidoo, to help with visitors at your lens and your websites - that is why you spent so much time on these lenses.

Get a Website and a Domain Name

Start your site out with a proper Domain name

The first 300 words are key! This section of your lens or website should have most of the keywords and keyword phrases that you want be searched by. Search engine optimization should start with the name of your website or lens. For example that is why I chose The Search Engine Directory,  The domain name has search engine in it, most of the domain names with search engine in it are pretty well taken. I wanted the keyword search engine in the title, and all of our search engine optimization experts know about keyword popularity. I also liked the idea of adding Directory to my title - everybody is looking for directories, as this is often a great way  to get into search engine databases and many directories have high PR rankings. I had to find a keyword rich name.

I have put up and sold several websites! I will continue to do so over the next few years. I have always believed that finding a domain name is important, and I have spent a good amount of time checking out their keyword popularity. I do not believe that you should just use your given name is a good idea, unless it is a popular name. I am considering purchasing the name Richard McDuff because there are over 33,000 references to this name in a google search! There are even lawyers who might be interested in purchasing this domain name from me, but anyways I digress.  Unless, you have a brick and mortar store or service, you should be taking a good amount of time to think of a domain name, While many people think that the only good domain name is an .com, this is not true - .info is a high level domain name - it was one of the original four and it is as good as any other. Besides, it is how you market it and optimize it that counts!
I have several domain names pointed to my squidoo lens, because squidoo is "google juiced&quot! The lenses are quick to put up, and there is an incredible amount of organic traffic here.
Domain names should be keyword rich! Look over your Lens or website and figure out it is about and use a keyword popularity tool and search what other people are searching. It should take you awhile to figure out what your domain name should be! Don't pick what you think it nice or original, or even your own name unless it is a household name! You should pick a name that is keyword rich! We used the domain name Everyday Gift Collectibles for our Ecrater Store because it was keyword rich - all the words are well searched! We will also be picking up domain names for each of the webpages as they completed!
This principle can also be used when you pick up domain names for your squidoo lens. Make sure that the domain name you pick is keyword rich. This may be difficult, as many people already know this principle and many good domain names have already picked.

Write Good Content

Make sure that your content matches the metatags

Search Engines, and Google in particular wants to see good content especially in the first 300 words of your website. For this reason when I design a website, I will not use a flash index page! While they are great to watch, the search engines at this time have a difficult time crawling them. Many of them are slow to load, and many people will have left your site before it is finished loading. So, I would leave the flash to other parts of the website.
In our website EverydayGiftCollectibles.com this is the dilemma, we want good content, but we also want to show some images of the products that we sell. It can be difficult, but we are working hard to balance little stories about the products that we sell and interspersing them with images (and alt descriptions). For an information website this is easy, but for a product or shopping website that relies on images that can be as difficult as all H.
You also want to make sure that the first 300 words contain as many keywords from your metatags as you can possibly enter. There is always a need for to words to Jive! While many people are poo-pooing the
metatags as useless, this is one more place for you to put in your keywords. If you have your keywords in the metatags and then you have them in the first 300 words of your website, you have these vital keywords twice in the spider crawl! The metatags are getting shorter and shorter and I think that this is a mistake!
I have a Lens Unique Christmas Stocking That went to ranking #798 overall in one month's time! I am truly impressed with that feat! It averages 90 some views a week, without me paying for the views! I am constantly changing or adding to my tags. I went in today and altered the introduction title and the first 300 words, because I now have a better idea what people are searching for at google. My Nightmare Before Christmas Lens ranks #393 and receives 240 views a week and has been up since August!

You must visit Tag Clouds!

I would suggest that you visit this at least once a week!

Tags for your squidoo lens is a must! You should be visiting Tag Clouds at least once a week if not more often! If you have a lens you should try and max out the tags, and this is the best place to find the tags to add to your lens! I have several lenses and I visit this place at least every other day to add tags to my lenses. I will also try and work the words into my content as well. I know that this is important for other search engines, so I am assuming that the search engines will be picking up these words or tags as well.
