The Segway Personal Transporter - Fun, Innovative, Serious Transportation

Like any invention that is before its time, the Segway Personal Transporter, normally referred to as the Segway PT, is often misunderstood.

The big smiles on the faces of Segway PT riders might give the impression that a Segway is just a toy. And yes - a Segway PT is incredibly fun to ride. But even more, its serious transportation for folks on the move in today's changing world.

The Segway PT can take you places a car or bike can't -- including taking you inside many stores, office buildings, companies, airfields and terminals, lifts, and trains.

Though they are ideal for short jaunts of five miles/eight km or less, Segway PTs can travel as far as twenty-four miles/38 km on a single battery charge, depending on terrain, payload, and riding style.

Riding a Segway Personal Transporter allows you to experience the joys of being active, and at the same time leave the hassles of vehicles and mass transit behind. Ride on footpaths and trails, side-by-side with buddies on foot, and still carry on a normal conversation. Plus, as you glide along on the Segway, in perfect harmony with your surroundings, you'll also be doing your part for the environment thanks to the Segway PT's zero emissions and zero need for fossil fuel (gasoline).

Segway and Safety - Is the Segway PT Safe?

Overview of safety research study findings for the Segway.

Segway Safety Factors

A revolutionary form of transportation is the innovative Segway. But is the Segway actually a safe from of transportation.

We've found some reliable research studies that can help answer this question. The research is based on systematic studies that were made on the safety of the Segway by the transportation departments several countries - the U.S., Canada, Germany, England, the Netherlands and Russia.

The outcome of these research studies revealed that the Segway provides its riders with better visibility due to elevated head/eye level, braking distance that's shorter than average scooters, far quicker deceleration, and a Segway can turn on a dime using literally no space at all.

One such study in Canada analyzed the safety factor of the Segway scooter by monitoring 143 people who traveled over 9,000 miles on a Segway - Riding on paths, highway shoulders, and roads in major urban areas.

Overall, the Segway proved to be quite safe as transportation in highly urban or populated areas, as their size and maneuverability make them safe around pedestrians and in tight places.

A 3 month study was conducted that inspected the braking, steering and general handling of the Segway. The report found the Segway can be safely operated on bike and walking areas. Most major studies have determined the Segway is perfectly safe to use in urbanized areas or in off-road areas.

Conclusion

Depending on the rider's needs and lifestyle, a Segway PT can be a VERY cool and VERY safe form of transportation.

Segway X2 - Impresses the Golf Community

Elevate your golf game with a Segway X2

Segway - The Segway X2, a Dream For Golfing Enthusiasts

At the Golf Industry Show in Florida earlier this year, Segway made notoriety again when the Association of Private Clubs and Directors named the Segway "New Product of the Year".

The Segway x2 is a perfect vehicle for golf courses seeking to stand out from the crowd. They can actually increase revenues by attracting the interest of current and potential new members.

"We're renting in excess of 4 Segway units a day which more than covers the expenses," says General Manager of California's Santa Teresa Golf Course, Jim McGrath. "We decided to take advantage of the fact that it's unique, that it's a new product, and we could separate ourselves from our competition by bringing something like the Segway x2 to our golf course."

Golfers that have had a chance to use a Segway x2 Golf enjoy the experience and see it as a valuable addition. "I think that if the golf course doesn't catch on to adding Segway [PTs] to their line up, they're going to be missing out on quite a bit of revenue and their golfers are actually going to go to places that do have them," said golfer Joseph Mopress of California.

The Segway x2 Golf can traverse the fairway with ease, speed up game play, and save on turf maintenance expense. It has low-pressure turf tires, a holder for score cards, and a golf bag carrier that auto-positions golf clubs to upright when the transporter is parked.

It features breakthrough steering technology that makes the ride intuitive, and a wireless InfoKey® controller that provides added convenience and security. Segway x2 Golf fleets are currently available at courses worldwide including locations in San Jose, Scottsdale and Hilton Head, Atlanta, as well as Germany, England, Spain, Russia and the Netherlands.
