Straight Ally for Marriage Equality
My first published book is now available on-line at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and many other on-line retailers around the world. It came about through my passion and desire to see full equality given to gay couples who simply want the same rights privileges and responsibilities with marriage as the rest of us. I am a straight ally for the GLBT community and after my church began their all out assault on the gay community in an effort to supposedly "protect marriage" from the phantom threat that gay marriage posed, I began my advocasy in telling the truth; that allowing gay marriage will do nothing more than bring stability and further commitment to couples who have always found themselves on the receiving end of persecution, prejudice and intolerance by the very people who preach about brotherly love. My desire for this Lens and my book "The Spell of Religion and the Battle Over Gay Marriage" is to get the word out there that this absurd idea that gay marriage will hurt society is false and based in religious fear and selfishness.

How to break the "spell" of religion., July 12, 2009
Sheri Lawson writes not only from the heart, but from the mind and the spirit as well. In simple and uncompromising language, she elucidates how fear and religious zeal have blinded logic and reason over the subject of gay marriage. By carefully researching the foundations of her own religious backgrounds, objections to same-sex marriage become shown more as tools of control than as real heartfelt values.
Time and time again, she strips the veneer of fear-mongering and "family values" away to show the immorality of "blind obedience" to doctrine without questioning.
Unsparing even as to her own checkered background, she discovered that once she took the punitive actions laid on her as an experience to go forward and discover truth beyond the religious programming she had adhered to, the fear and "spell" of religion no longer had power.
She uses these experiences to quietly and concisely break the bonds holding the truth, asunder: that gay marriage is NOT a threatening, demoralizing agenda of evil, but a natural and civil right to be conferred honestly and without fear upon those who simply want the chance to love and take care of each other as any other married couple can. Legally and with joy.

Posted July 25, 2009, 12:35 PM EST: This is a VERY important work, dedicated to exposing the horrors of organized religion, with the author's personal connection with the Mormon church, or as I prefer to call these organizations: "cults" -- with long histories of brainwashing being forced by cult leaders onto their blind, ignorantly faithful followers. Bitter HATE and inhuman PREJUDICE continues to be perpetuated against the innocent, oppressed Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered community, denying us of human and civil rights that heterosexuals have always had, and taken for granted. The attitude that organized religious cults use, "that they do not hate the sinner, it's the sinful 'lifestyle' they can not tolerate", is a tired, over-used, transparent device they choose to hide behind. It's a tragic reality in this world that archaic, completely senseless, wrong belief systems are given great power to divide, separate, and punish when love, caring, understanding, and compassion should, and could, guide us all towards equality and unity. There is something intensely wrong and corrupt when HATE and sick, INSANE beliefs are used against anyone in the name of love and/or God. This is not simply a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender issue -- hatred, fear, prejudice, and oppression is a human conflict ... concerning all of us.
