I don't know how this lens ever got out of WIP, but here it is! - What is "the talk of Squidoo"? - Well, let me tell you a little bit about Squidoo first. On Squidoo lensmasters make, bake, or create lenses. The talk of Squidoo is therefore, LENSES! This Squidoo Tips Lens is to show you, How - To - Build - A - Worthless - Lens! Just don't follow my examples, and I am sure you can build a valuable, interesting, and useful lens. - I am sure of it!

Bald Eagles in Voyageurs National Park and Tipi The Tipigal also got Purple Star Awards ~ I was ecstatic! Getting to Giant Squid is a lot of work, maintaining great lenses is even more. It takes dedication, passion and determination. A lens that is created with love for something or someone will always succeed. WIP is a place where lenses that are under construction go until they are not under construction. 

WIP is a good place to have a lens until you are ready to publish it.

I published this lens with enough modules on it. 4 to 5 modules with some content will be enough to get out of WIP. It doesn't seem to matter what that content is, or if it all focuses on 'a topic' or not. - I started out on Squidoo by publishing lenses that weren't ready to be published, but I had enough modules with some content. - I ended up with a bunch of 'lenses' that were half baked, had no creativity what so ever, and were worthless as far as useful or interesting content goes. - I than had to be working on a bunch of half baked lenses.

I have several lenses that are in the Top 100 Lists, and I've even gotten to #1 on Squidoo. The fact still remains, that I had some unfinished lenses to work on while I tired to keep my ratings up on the ones that do real well. That's work!

My Advice: Don't drink alcohol like Foster Brooks and publish lenses when you are half baked! Be patient, work on a lens for a week or two at first, and add as much about the topic as you can think of. Once you get more experienced you'll be able to sometimes whip-up a lens in little time, depending on the lens. It does get easier, but everyone will admit that it can be overwhelming and frustrating creating lenses and than trying to get traffic. The tag words and keywords are very important to work on. Even experienced lensmasters can have troubles with adding just the right tags and keywords to their lenses. The traffic will come, if you do this well and it is what people are searching for, so do a keyword search before you make a lens...not afterward.

I've seen lots of lenses that are thrown together by experienced lensmasters on one single point. It may have taken them all of 5 or 10 minutes to do. The point may be very worth while for newbies, but as far as a lens goes, that is not a good example. Those lenses will earn revenues from Squidoo though, and if you look at it from that point of view --- I guess they are a good example to earn more money.

I know, there are lots of half baked lenses on Squidoo that are doing well. That is because the lensmaster is popular and gets free advertising from other lensmaster's news letters and lenses. Are you popular? Are you well know? If not, a half baked lens isn't going to get noticed much and will in most cases get passed by. Hopefully, someone won't leave you with a 1-star rating.

Tipi's Tip: Its good to lensroll all of your lenses together especially if you use some of the same Tag and Keywords on them. I have lost all of the links for my lenses on all of my lenses once. I had 10 to 40 some links to other lensmaster's lenses there though, but not mine. So, really gotta keep an eye on that if Squidoo has had problems. I slowly worked my way through all of my lenses and deleted everyone else's, and re-lensrolled all of my lenses to each other again. My rating were going down because my links were gone. As I worked at getting them lensrolled again, the ratings went up again.

As a affiliate marketer on a "Squidoo Tips" lens, that would make a lot more sense and go along with the topic and content. The lens might even get picked for LOTD or favorited, or better yet I might sell something!

There are a lot of affiliate marketers on Squidoo making good money every month. Lenses that sell products regularly can earn more revenues and gain higher lensranks. I'm not a high-power seller on Squidoo but I am a top earner because my lenses have good ranks and ratings. I don't pretend that they are all great...but I'm working on that. Updating lenses is important and several of mine have a lot of detail and information because I keep adding more, add my artistic creativity. I promote different causes and donate to charities, sometimes as a volunteer. Everyone is unique on Squidoo with different styles.

I would like to make it to the 100 Club someday and have 100 great lenses, but I'm not in a hurry to create a bunch of lenses that aren't going to do well just to get there. I could, but that's not my style!

    I would guess there is much anticipation as the Giant Squid Awards approach--I wish you well on your nomination for Tipi The Tipigal is Susie Lehto--I know you were very pleased to be nominated and this is one of your favorites. I guess I don't know much about how winners are determined--is there a panel that makes the decision or do all the Giant Squids fight it out in the Squidoo pond out back? Good luck to everyone!

    Sometimes the best way to learn is to learn what NOT to do. I published a few half-baked lenses in my time. I ended up with cake on my face and lettuce in my shoes.
