Tankini Swimsuits

Tankinis are the most recent addition to the "ini" family and features a bikini bottom with a cropped tank top that is usually supported by spaghetti straps. The top of the tankini is primarily a tank top with different variations on the design. The top extends down the torso to just above the navel on most tankinis however there are exceptions to this. Tankinis designed for full figured women extend all the way down to the top of the bikini bottoms. This design was the product of two separate ideas that was combined by Anne Cole.

Her family was pioneers in the swimsuit business and her blend of the bikini and the tank top caught on quickly and is responsible for almost one third of the world's swimsuit market. She originally designed the tankini for herself as a child which is why they were first sold as children's swimwear. She finally put her design together with the understanding of women's anxieties about their bodies and swimsuits. Today many brand name designers have designed a variety of styles such as Calvin Klein, Victoria's Secret and Delta Burke to name just a few.

With the diversification of the tankini, it was discovered that sewing in bra cups could disguise a small breasted woman and make it appear as though she was bigger than she actually was. They also became popular with breast cancer patients who had had mastectomies to remove one or both breasts, women with long torsos and bumps and bulges that may seem too obvious. These suits are great for hiding the extra curves that you may be exhibiting and are somewhat embarrassed by. The plus size tankini can help you mask a poochy belly or a flat bottom while enjoying the water with your kids.

Today there are several variations to the tankini. The camikini is a bikini bottom with a camisole top. The bandeaukini which is a bikini bottom with a tube top that is also called a bandini and the skirtini is a top with a skirt bottom. These variations allow for more choices when purchasing your bathing suit as separates. Some fashion experts also suggest a bandini style wedding dress be worn by some body types such as someone who is athletic or has a long torso. This could be the next big bridal gown style for the stars.

This is a bathing suit that allows you to be active without fear of over exposure. You no longer have to worry about losing your top while diving, playing volleyball or rafting with the tankini. The newest form of the "ini" can be found at department stores, specialty shops and online for competitive costs when comparing to other swimwear separates. They look great with additional coverage apparel such as sarongs, beach dresses and cover-ups. Don't let summer pass you by. Get out there and enjoy the sun and sea in a tankini. They are appropriate for beach parties, pool parties, lounging in the sun or activities that require lots of movement.
