The Trevor Project, according to its own website, "operates the only nationwide, around-the-clock crisis and suicide prevention helpline for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and questioning youth. If you or a friend are feeling lost or alone call The Trevor Helpline. There is hope; there is help..."
I feel that this organization is a national treasure, and it is shameful that it took so long to make it happen. Luckily, as you will see below, Hollywood has begun to shine its light on The Trevor Project, and I'm hopeful that it will receive much more attention and many more accolades in the near future.

Origin
In 1998, HBO aired an 18 minute dramedy short film called "Trevor," about a 13 year old boy who experiences homophobia from his parents and his peers and attempts suicide. Ellen DeGeneres hosted. The film was already four years old at this point, and had won the 1994 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. When searching for an appropriate suicide hotline to broadcast at the end of HBO's airing of the film, the creators discovered that there was no suicide hotline specifically geared toward LGBTQ youth--therefore, The Trevor Helpline was born. It has taken over 100,000 calls since its inception. The Trevor Project also launched The Trevor Survival Kit in 2004. Since then, almost 3000 educators and youth service providers have enjoyed the kit's educational information. The kit contains a copy of the short film "Trevor," The Trevor Teaching Guide (to be used in conjunction with the short film), wallet-sized cards with The Trevor Helpline's toll-free number, and posters that reach out to young people in need of someone to talk to.
In 2005, The Trevor Project launched Dear Trevor, an anonymous online Question & Answer forum where young people can ask non-urgent questions about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Since then, they have received hundreds of letters from young people all around the world.

The Trevor Workshop Guide
Because LGBTQ suicide is preventable.
From site: "The Trevor Project believes that the high rates of suicide are preventable. To this end, we created The Trevor Workshop Guide, a classroom tool to be used in conjunction with the short film, "Trevor," to constructively generate discussion about the myriad of issues surrounding suicide, personal identity and sexual orientation,.Through open discussions with all youth about feelings of isolation, feeling 'different' from their peers, or being misunderstood, the classroom atmosphere can empower youth to discuss options for troubled youth and help students to watch over each other."

- Greetings from Norway!
I came over this site when reading about The Trevor Project online. Personally I am very supporting of all the work that The Trevor Project is doing and about their crisis lifeline. I know how it is to be discriminated for being a lesbian, to be told I am sick for loving another woman. Enough is enough there should be equal rights for all no matter who you are or were you live.
I am running my own fundraiser on a site called Crowdrise, here you can see it: http://www.crowdrise.com/fundraiserelise/fundraiser/elisemariemyrvangeik there are many teammembers supporting it from all over the world. I would love you to become a teammember to and help support my fundraiser to raise more funds for helping gay teens.
Cheers,
Elise Marie

- I have gone to the chirstmas show a few times. Once I even one a silent auction to a wine tasting I think!. Very great event and the stars really do shine that night. Thank you for doing what you do. I know I tried to call out for another voice in my youth growing up in idaho in the 70s & 80s. Thank god I found a group of like minded punk rockers , disco boys, and thrift store mommas to let me know I was an ok person!

- Thank you for letting people know about the Trevor Project. I've lensrolled this lens on my lens "Shades of Gay is Coming Out for LGBTQ Suicide Prevention". I wish I'd known about the Trevor Project when my best friend was struggling with suicidal thoughts. Anyway, this topic is so so important... thank you for telling people about it.
