The Wrestler is a story of a washed up athlete at the end of his career. Randy "The Ram" Robinson doesn't know how to live his life without wrestling. Despite a medical condition, he's still performing on the indy circuit and still battling his addiction to pain killers, steroids, and the adulation of the crowd. This documentary style film explores the life of Randy the Ram and his failed relationships, especially with his estranged daughter, and his ability to leave wrestling to become a normal citizen by getting a normal job. Rourke won a Golden Globe Monday Jan 11th 2009 and may win an Oscar in February.

The Wrestler Wins Two Golden Globes!

Mickey Rourke and Bruce Springsteen win Golden Globes for The Wrestler.

Mickey Rourke won The Best Actor in a Drama for The Wrestler. The role epitomized his bad-boy-with-a-softie-center persona - he was destined to play this part. After hugging Bruce Springsteen, he tripped on the way up to the podium "I am not perfect, sweetheart." And when an officious female tech tried to get Rourke to stop holding the thin wire mic stand, Rourke waved her off: "I like holding it. Cool it." After a reporter said he was out of the business for ten years, Rourke responded, "More like 14 years ago, if you want to be honest. Ten sounds easy." His sunglasses never came off.

Bruce Springsteen snagged the Golden Globe Award January 11th for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture for the theme to The Wrestler. Springsteen accepted the award in person at the ceremonies in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton.

In his acceptance speech, Springsteen, who beat out Beyonce, Peter Gabriel, Miley Cyrus, and Clint Eastwood, opened by joking:"This is the only time I'm gonna be in competition with Clint Eastwood, I know that for sure. (Laughter) It felt pretty good too! (Laughter).")

He went on to credit The Wrestler's star Mickey Rourke for getting him involved in writing the theme for the movie: "Mickey called me and he asked me for some music. He told me a little bit about the character. He said, 'Some people invest themselves in their pain, and they turn away from love and the things that strengthen and nurture their lives.'He said that this was a guy that hadn't figured that out. So I said, 'I know a couple of those guys.'(Laughter) And so the song."

Springsteen closed by thanking his family -- wife Patti Scialfa, kids Evan, Jessie, and Sam -- and wishing "The Big Man" Clarence Clemmons a happy birthday. Clemmons celebrated his 67th birthday last night (January 11th)
