A little about Betty.
Betty made her film debut as a curvy canine cabaret singer in "Dizzy Dishes" a Max Fleischer short on August 9, 1930.
Yes Betty began her life as a dog! But even as a dog, she was full of feminine charm.
The Betty we know and love today just couldn't be held back, through several shorts she evolved from canine to human and by the time "Any Rags" was released on January 12, 1932 her floppy dog ears gave way to earrings and Betty was truly born.
Her baby face, little girls voice and independent ways made Betty into a star. It is interesting to note that Bimbo her love interest in "Dizzy Dishes" remained by her side throughout her transformation, remaining ever her faithful canine friend.

This episode presents the biography of celluloid personality Betty Boop. The creation of William Fleischer, the seductive cartoon star tickled the fancy of moviegoers more than half a century ago, and her appeal continues today. The program, directed by the animator's son, Richard Fleishcher, traces Betty Boop's rise to success. First depicted like a mythological figure of old, Betty had a woman's body and a dog's head. Later revisions gave her the persona that she is known by today. Archival film footage shows the perky Ms. Boop in her famous routine with Cab Calloway, singing "Minnie the Moocher."
