Do You Live with a Computer Geek?

Is your favorite person a computer geek? Or are you one? It is possible that if you have arrived at this article, you either are a computer geek or know one.

My husband is a computer geek. He is a software engineer, and is one of the most difficult people to buy gifts for. However, I have now discovered the perfect place to purchase gifts for him, and for any other computer geeks that you know.

The problem is that to find gifts for geeks, you have to think geek. It is like a special language. Think geek, and you will find great geek gifts, geek gadgets, and geek toys that will please any geek on your gift list.

All of the gifts listed here are from ThinkGeek, a company that bills itself as being "stuff for smart masses."

Think Geek: Stress Relief

Beating Heart Stress Relief Pillow

Beating Heart Stress Relief Pillow
Beating Heart Stress Relief Pillow - Large Blue

This is my absolute favorite product from ThinkGeek. When you hug this pillow to you, it beats in a rhythm that calms you down. It really works! I can't think of anyone who doesn't need one of these. And, it is just so cute!

Think Geek: Caffeine Fix

Caffeine Molecule Shirt

When I think of caffeine, I think of a large latte with hazelnut added, but when computer geeks think of caffeine, it is diluted down to its scientific formula.

Think Geek: The Ultimate in Laser Pointers

Green-Red Laser Pointer

Green-Red Laser Pointer
Okay, we all know that geeks have the very best gadgets. And they know how to use them before anyone else. Here is the ThinkGeek version of a laser pointer. And although the average person would not need one of these, anyone who leads meetings will race to get their hands on this cool toy.

Think Geek: Don't Run from Your Dragons

Halfling/Dragon T-shirt

Valuable advice:
The front reads "When you find yourself in the company of a halfling and an ill-tempered Dragon, remember, you do not have to outrun the Dragon..." and the back of the shirt reads "...you just have to outrun the halfling."

Think Geek: How Geeks Go Green

Ceramic Noodle Cup

Ceramic Noodle Cup
Ceramic Noodle Cup
Do you think of ramen noodles as a food group? Well, geeks do, but using all that styrofoam day after day contributes to a ecological disaster. So what is the solution? Well, a Ceramic Noodle Cup, silly!

Think Geek: New Geek in the Family

New baby in your favorite geek's family?

Geeks definition of newbie is a little different that the rest of us. Here is a gift for the Newbie in your geek's family.

Newbie Onesie

Think Geek: Science Toys

I just love these microbes!

Giant Plush Microbes - Toxoplasmosis
This gift is more like a science project. Each 5-7 inch plush microbe comes with a instructional card that includes an actual picture of the microbe along with information about the microbe in its natural environment. It is a reminder of things that we often don't see.

Think Geek: How to Continuously Pop Bubble Wrap

Electronic Bubble Wrap Keychain

Here is what ThinkGeek says:
"Each keychain device has 8 rubbery little "bubble" buttons. They have a pretty close tactile feel to actual bubble wrap. Guess what happens when you push one? That's right, you hear a little pop. In a nutshell, that is the simple beauty of the electronic bubble wrap keychain. But there is one bonus, and here's where the OCD can kick in a little. Every 100th "pop" is not a pop at all, but a silly sound: a boing, a bark, a rude noise, etc. And since you can easily pop (pun intended) the keychain in your pocket, you'll always have bubble wrap when you need it most."

Think Geek: Retro

Stylophone Retro Pocket Synth

You have to be an old geek for this one because we are talking retro geekdom. This synthesizer is the exact duplicate of a stylus operated synthesizer invented in 1967 and used by such iconic musicians as David Bowie, Kraftwerk and Erasure. And it sounds just like the original.

Think Geek: Creative Addition

This shirt is apropos to artists as well as geeks

2 + 2=5
2+2=5
As an artist, I can tell you that 2 + 2 does equal 5 more often than not in my life. My husband doesn't always understand why that is. But this shirt definitely would fit.

About ThinkGeek

What's the deal with this whole ThinkGeek thingy?

ThinkGeek started as an idea. A simple idea to create and sell stuff that would appeal to the thousands of people out there who were on the front line and in the trenches as the Internet was forged. ThinkGeek started as a way to serve a market that was passionate about technology, from programmers, engineers, students, lovers of open source, to the masses that helped create the behind-the-scenes Internet culture.

Think Geek: Paranoia

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean it isn't true

The Mini Bug Detector offers protection against wireless microphones and transmitters. This device is perfect for securing homes, offices and hotel rooms. It has a LED signal strength display and audio tone that help pinpoint the precise location of bugs.

I must admit, I am not a great fan of lenses that promote products. But this lens is proof that they can be well laid out and "quality". And I had to visit because in our household I am the Computer Geek!
