As a management student, I was puzzled all throughout my degree at the content that I was supposed to learn. Old theories, repeated over and over again, to the point of exhaustion. I recognize the importance of Ford and Taylor to modern management, and I couldn't imagine how to market stuff without the 4 P's. But are these tools enough for the challenges that await me, as a 21st century manager?

The answer was a clear "no". So, my quest for new knowledge began... And some of it is presented now in this Squidoo Lens.

Straight to the point.

Truthful Marketing
"Truthful" marketing relies on revealing all the naked truth, instead of embeleshing it, like ordinary advertising does.
Design Matters
Design matters.

Think about it. Your daily choices are influenced by design, whether product design, ambient design, print design, or others. You choose what is most attractive, most simple, most natural.
DYB.com
DYB stand for "Destroy Your Business". The basis behind this theory, is that, if you don't take the initiative to kill your cash cows and instead, rely on old business, your competitors will do it for you, leaving you at a standstill when the "train has already moved on".

Thinkers!

People who change things.

The Tom Peters! Weblog
Tom Peters changes the way I look at business every day, with each entry of his blog. Some call him an "extremist", I call him a visionary - one who pushes limits. You will soon find out by yourself what do I mean...
Seth's Blog
Do I actually need to describe this link? If you're here, at Squidoo, you already have some idea of who is Seth Godin and what does he do. If not... I'll let you find out by yourself.
Seth Godin's Squidoo lens
More of the same. Make sure you download (and actually read...) the e-books available here.
The More Space project

Management Craft
Lisa Hanenberg's blog about state-of-the-art management. Quite an interesting read.

Good examples are never enough.

Apple
Need I say more?
IDEO
Innovation is IDEO's business. Searching for the future? Look no further.
General Electric
Welch's GE was a great example of top-notch management, Immelt's GE is quickly redefining the way all of us will do business in the next decade.
Pixar
Pixar single-handedly dragged a kicking and screaming industry into the future. I call that a prime example of innovation.
Nokia
If you're looking for examples of innovation, always go for the leader of the pack. No communications company comes even close Nokia at user-centric design. And that's good business in my book.

Present it!

Effective communication.

I've lost track of how many times a good idea has been foiled by terrible presentation/communication. Learn to present properly: a powerful skill it is.
Presentation Zen
This site has changed my presentations inside out. Garr Reynolds points out great examples of how to do things right, with a nice Zen touch...
