Ready for the transition to Middle School?

Middle school, or Junior High as it is known in some areas, causes stress and change for parents, students and teachers. Academics and peer issues like bullying and finding new friends can make transitioning to this new academic environment challenging.

Yes, I can't get that kid to focus

JoeBruzzese says:

Helina, thanks for sharing your comment. Do you listen to music while doing homework in your room or do you work without it?

No, he/she would never get anything done.

Helina says:

i am the student , but my mom would say I was the smartest person in the world. I got a 99% on my 4th grade Ohio Acheviement Test. And since 4th grade my mom made me stay for at least one hour in my room doing my homework.

alavima says:

my child is the smartest girl ever she would never do such a thing

JoeBruzzese says:

Angela's words ring true for many families. Thanks for sharing your strategy with us.

Angela says:

Great idea for a lens. Middle school is a year away for us-- but I'm already feeling nervous about my son entering that new environment! I'll need all the help and advice I can get!

For over 15 years Joe Bruzzese has worked with families to build relationships at school and in the home with the goal of guiding success and fulfillment during the middle school and high school years. With a Master's Degree in Education and a National Athletic Coaching License Joe brings years of educational theory and practical experience to the Thinking Forward organization. In addition to the coaching services and parent presentations he facilitates as one of the Thinking-Forward co-founders, Joe holds a professorship position in the Graduate School of Education, at UC Santa Barbara, where he teaches courses focused on the development of relationships among children, parents and schools.

Joe's expertise stems from his background as an educator and the interpersonal relationships he creates with families. His understanding of children, families and the learning process creates the ideal environment for building success in school and at home. As a featured writer in local and regional publications, Joe's articles offer parents a fresh perspective on finding the balance between school, family and extracurricular commitments during the middle school and high school years.

Through the consistent introduction and achievement of solid, goal-setting strategies families move forward together as a cohesive team. The relationship a child has with his or her family, teachers and coaches greatly affects long-term success. Joe guides families in the development of strategies that lead to building supportive relationships.
