Test, Test, Test ....

.... this is only a test. You will be returned to your regularly scheduled program shortly. Or back to where you were once you hit the back key. LOL

I use this lens when I am playing around with various modules. I may be using this to test a module, make a print screen for a tutorial, or to show a fellow lensmaster an example.

I like to do this here, rather than taking the chance of messing up one of my good lenses.

Editors note: Lens photo image is an Indian Head Test Card, remember that?

Careful on those stars LOL

This isn't going to be a pretty lens, it looks like this for a reason as I may be showing examples of what not to do.

Pulease don't ding me on the lens rating.... ok?

Poor Introduction Module

Better Introduction Module

Trying adding more text or uploading a resized smaller image, or both!

New Text / Write module

Oopsie, we forgot to change the default module title!

All modules have a default title, be sure to check all your modules to make sure you have changed them.

A Proper Text Module Title

Awwww..... much better!

Not only is that dreaded "New" word not there, but I completely changed and entered a more descriptive title.

Poor Module Spacing

Warning.... Cute Dust Bunny Alert!

Optional image for text module with only a line or two of text.

Poor Module Spacing

See how much spacing is inbetween the modules and the spacing isn't consistent.

Poor Module Spacing

When a text module includes an image, you want to include as much text as you can so it will at least fit and fill in beside the image.

Better Module Spacing

You can either make your image smaller or add more text.

Most of us have some kind of image software, so making an image smaller is very easy.

And we can always find something else to say, come on, we're Squidoo Lensmasters!

Better Module Spacing

If you really can't come up with additional text for the module, then consider not using an optional image with this module.

Is it really that important to use an image in this module, especially if you can't come up with anything else to write?

Consider using an image in another module instead?

Better Module Spacing

As you can see, I have added more text and made the images I used smaller.

By making these changes to these three text modules, don't these three modules look much nicer on the page than the first three?

Excessive Capitalization

Kinda hard to read huh?

OK, I ADMIT IT, I'M ADDICTED.... TO EVERYTHING AVOCADO. I USUALLY JUST ROUGH CHOP THE AVOCADO AND ADD A LITTLE FRESH SQUEEZED LEMON, OK A LOT, SINCE I LOVE THAT TOO! AND REAL LEMONS FOLKS, NOT THAT BOTTLED STUFF. I SPREAD THIS ON A WARM TORTILLA WRAP, ADD A LITTLE ROMAINE LETTUCE, AND THAT'S IT!

Doesn't this look much nicer and easier to read?

Example of Improper Paragraphs

I see this on many lenses

The colors you use will affect whether a potential buyer will continue clicking through your site. Color also helps to keep these folks involved on your web site (it's not always just about the content) and how long they stay.
Colors also influence how people will respond and behave. For example, as a general rule, a black background on your web site now represents a sex-type web site. It is important that if that isn't your focus, that you don't use a black background.

It should look like this

Image for Polaroid Module

If the image you use and upload using the Polaroid Module is too small, it won't look pretty. The picture will be stretched to fit and will become blurry.

Using a larger sized image will greatly improve the photo quality.

We use this module to show off our pictures in a special polaroid format. Why not have nice clear looking picture? See examples below.

But first an Editor's Note: You cannot make a smaller image larger, even if you resize a smaller image larger using your photo image software, it will still be blurry and distorted. You have to find and use a larger original image. Make sense?

Image is only 150 pixels wide

Image is 640 pixels wide

This is gonna hurt......

The next sections are to show you how using too many special modules too closely together is not a good thing and well, just don't look pretty!

Will you even remember anything you are about to read in all these boxes?

Keep it Simple

Using too many special modules in a lens, such as the Blackbox, can make your lens overwhelming and blinding to the reader.

Not enough spacing

Even though I have text modules in-between, they are too small to even make a difference.

Especially

When they are close together.

So try and only use one in a lens.

If you have a long lens, just be sure to space them out.

Just one Word.....

Yikes!

The Most Important Thing

And speaking of this module LOL, using these special modules, you want to have several more gentler modules in-between, such as a text module.

If you have a lengthy lens, you can add more, but for shorter lenses, dont' go crazy.

StickyNote Module

Same thing with this one, use a limited number based on the length and content of your lens. Will you even remember anything you just read in all these boxes?

Use in Moderation

As you can see, with all of these modules, it takes away from the lens content and your reader may be missing something important you have to say, or else * gasp * dinging your stars!

"Having Blackboxes, StickyNotes, and Talk Bubbles all on one short lens hurts the eyes!"

Over Styling

This an example of doing far too much styling on a page, usually a combination of HTML and CSS styling.

It can become too difficult to read, especially if done throughout the lens.

We all want to add a little something special to our lenses or try to make something important stand out ......

BUT please, use this type of styling sparingly on your lens!

It's important to have something stand out once in a while, but if it is styled like this throughout your lens page, then it will have the reverse effect and your message or what you are trying to highlight will get lost.

I also suggest never using more than two colors and the colors you use, do try and color coordinate them (cuz I'm like that LOL)..
