My two year old son loves Thomas the Tank Engine and people buy him lots of Thomas the Tank engine toys. He enjoys watching Thomas DVDs, loves reading the books and is quite into some of the characters, his favourites include Percy and James. Thomas lego duplo
Since my son's second birthday he has loved playing with lego and 2 year olds will love the lego duplo sets featuring Thomas. The blocks are bigger and perfect for little hands to start putting together (although most 2 year olds will probably need a little help constructing the sets at the beginning). After they have built the set they can have great fun driving Thomas and his friends around and engaging in hours of imaginative and creative play.Thomas train track lego is a toy that adults and older children will enjoy constructing and playing with too. Additionally, you can use the lego duplo blocks to build other constructions. It's also a good alternative to buying a wooden Thomas train set. Wooden Thomas the train sets
My son is now 2 1/2 and loves his wooden railway set. He plays for ages putting the tracks together and then moving his magnetic trains around the track. It keeps him occupied for some time and his Dad loves playing with it too. Thomas wooden train sets are great for re-enacting the Thomas stories from the books and the television. They make great toys for imaginative play. The Thomas train sets are high quality and durable too.
Wooden train sets make great toys when there are lots of pieces to build intricate tracks. Therefore I would recommend buying a Thomas wooden train set and then expanding it with a basic bulk wooden railway set that is Thomas compatible (see below). I personally think wooden train sets are great for toddlers as part of the play involves spending time working out how to put the pieces together to build tracks. As they get older they can have more fun building more intricate tracks as their skills increase. They're great for improving fine motor skills and hand and eye co-ordination.

Thomas trains
These magnetic trains are great to go with a wooden railway set. My son spends ages putting all the magnetic trains together and pulling them around the track. He also "drives" them all over the house, over the sofa, up the walls, around the back of the TV. Also when he goes out in the garden and for a walk he drives them outside over walls and on the ground. If you have a 2 year old Thomas fan he will love a set of trains to play with.

Thomas the tank engine take along trains are a great alternative for other trainsets. The advantage that they have over other trains and train sets is that they are designed to be portable (hence the name - take along). The take along trains are the right size to fit perfectly in toddler's hands and carry. The play sets are designed so with storage space so that you can throw a few trains into the play set, close it up and take it with you. The play sets also have handles to help you carry them. Thomas the tank engine floor puzzle
This is a great floor puzzle that my son loves. He was given it for his 2nd birthday and it's a really nice thing to sit down and do together. It encourages him to concentrate on something for a while.I think it will last a while because eventually I am hoping he will sit down and do it on his own.
Thomas Magnetic Drawing Board
I've cheated a little bit with this one because our son was given a magnetic drawing board but it wasn't the Thomas one. However, our son at just two loved the magnetic drawing board and I think he would love a Thomas one even more. He holds onto the pen and does lots of scribbles onto the board and then wipes the board clean and starts again. We draw circles, lines, scribbles and all kinds of shapes. This one has prints you can do on the board (you may have to supervise your child using the printing shapes carefully to make sure they don't put them in their mouths - you could just take them away while you're not there and let them use the magnetic pen on their own.) I love this toy as well and I actually sit down sometimes and do nice drawings - maybe this is a little bit sad! Also I think it's a toy that will last for a few years.

Play tents are great for 2 year olds. They are especially great in the hot weather as you can put them up outside in the garden and there is instant shade. In the Winter they can be put up inside the house. Toddlers loves playing in them. My son and niece play with one at their grandmas. Thomas books
I had to add a Thomas book to my list. My 2 year old son loves looking at books and this is one of his favourites. He loves lifting up the flaps and will actually sit for a couple of minutes on his own looking at the book which gives me a few moment to myself now and again.

Thomas the Tank Engine Phone
This toy was bought for our son when he was about 18 months and he loved pressing the buttons and seeing them light up as well as pretending to talk on the Thomas phone. He literally played with it for hours. He used to have it in his cot at night and play with it before he went to sleep, pressing the buttons and listening to the words. It's actually meant for children from 3 years as there are a lot of interactive games to play. There games include copying a pattern of lights, finding different characters on the keypad, pressing the numbers the voice asks for and dialing up Thomas and his friends. My 2 year old loves pretending to be on the phone and has started to play the games. A great toy for playing and learning numbers and one that will last a long time.

Thomas the Train Trackmaster Sets
A toy that's on our Thomas wishlist
We haven't got any Thomas the train trackmaster products but if you are looking for a Thomas the train set I have read rave reviews about Trackmaster Thomas at Action Canyon train set. This trackmaster set is more affordable than the wooden sets and its huge. It's a 53 piece set with a Thomas train and includes a giant waterfall, rickety old bridge, and winding mountain track. The train will need to be laid out before play begins but this should only take a few minutes. Thomas is motorised with a battery and will be able to climb up the hill. You can also buy more motorised trains to go with the set. This set is durable and should encourage lots of imaginative play. It's probably more suited to children over 2 1/2. It looks lots of fun. I think I would enjoy playing with it too.

We haven't got this Thomas the train laptop but it looks great for 2 year olds. The laptop has lots of games and activities which will help children learn their letters and enjoy music. The reviews on Amazon are really good with 2 year olds loving the laptop, playing the games and learning letters just by playing with this toy. Just like Mum and Dad's laptop it comes with its own mouse too.
Thomas the Tank Engine Bath Toys
My son loves the bath and loves all the toys he has to go in it. He especially likes his Thomas bath toys and always asks for these ones in particular. He takes them out of the bath tub to play with as well. You hold them under the water and fill them up. Then you squeeze them for the water to come out of the top. He does need a hand to squeeze the water out but it is a nice little toy for the bath.

- All of my boys loved Thomas when they were younger! The show, the books, the train toys - we've been through them all. I loved the train set, too, and spent a lot of time setting up wooden tracks. Ahhh....miss those days! (My youngest is six, not like he doesn't play with Thomas anymore, but now he does all his own tracks!) :)
