HISTORY OF THOMAS THE TANK
Thomas the Tank Engine is a fictional tank locomotive created by the Rev. W. V. Awdry in his Railway Series books, made into the British children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends and its American spin-off Shining Time Station.Thomas the Tank Engine first appeared in 1946 in the book Thomas the Tank Engine as a station pilot, whose job was to shunt coaches and trucks for the bigger engines. He longed for more important jobs such as pulling the express train like Gordon, but his inexperience prevented this. Eventually he was responsible for rescuing James after an accident, and the Fat Controller (who was then known as the Fat Director) decided that he was a Really Useful Engine, and ready for his own branch line. He has remained in charge of this line ever since.
His closest friends are Annie and Clarabel, his 2 coaches. However, he is also very good friends with Percy (despite a lot of arguments), Toby, his old friend Edward, and his frequent substitute Duck.
Thomas is based on the E2 Class 0-6-0T locomotives built for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway between 1913 and 1916.

WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HENRY THE GREEN ENGINE?!
Henry lives on the fictitious Island of Sodor with many other locomotives, including Thomas the Tank Engine, Gordon the Big Engine and Percy the Small Engine. He is engine number 3 on the North Western Railway.Although he is a hard worker, he can be prone to illness, which many engines put off as lazyness.
He has been in the television series from the start, and in recent seasons has been identified as part of the Steam Team, the eight central characters.
There have been two Railway Series books devoted to him, namely Henry the Green Engine and Henry and the Express.
WE LOVE THOMAS!

- I used to have the book of Edward The Blue Engine when I was tiny. That was my introduction to the Island Of Sodor and I have been a fan ever since.
My daughters recently went to see Thomas at the theater and loved it. It's good to see these lovable characters still around.
5 stars for a good read.
