Cats and Kittens - Tapestry Panel Three Kittens
In the years after my son left for college, I was having a hard time to adjust to this new change in my life. I was no more a mom who woke up early to prepare breakfast for my son, and who followed his studies and sports activities. The empty place in my life was gradually taken up by my pets. I had always loved to have pets, but we only had parakeets in the house; there was a neighbor's a dog who spent most of her time at our place, but we could not have any cats because my son was allergic to them.
One day in September 2005, I noticed that my neighbor had a few little cats running around in his garage. He told me that they were from neighbors across; their dog had chased them away and they sought refuge in his garage. He felt pity for them and started to feed them, so they stayed at his place. I thought they were cute and I wanted to have them. I started feeding them, and one day they moved to my garage. The mother of the family of cats was black, and she had 3 kittens; one was female, completely gray, and the other two were male, black with touches of white on the face and paws. The mother and two of her kittens came to us but one of the males was too afraid. He remained around but I was never able to get near him.
Later on the cats grew up living in the garage; I was not able to touch them much and could only feed them. Sometimes the mother cat would come to our front door, but soon she was gone for good.
The next year, the grey cat was pregnant and we found her with four little kittens. They were very cute and we went crazy about them. Two kittens were black and two were white with a touch of smoky grey on the ears, paws, and tails. All of a sudden we had seven cats to take care of.
Having cats everywhere, I needed to find animal shelters in the area. This seemed the best solution: I could take care of couple of cats, but not seven. Finding a home for all the cats was hard; I was only able to give away one kitten to a neighbor. Efforts to take them to the animal shelter were not successful, because the shelters in our area were already full with cats that needed homes. To avoid getting overrun with cats, we had the challenge of getting them neutered or spayed, but we succeeded to take them to our local clinic. Because they were still feral cats, it was hard to catch them and put them in carriers!
After all this, our cats slowly disappeared. One was hit by a car, the others were gone without trace. Today we have only one black cat left, which is domesticated enough to come inside and take a nap near me on the sofa. Sometimes she will sleep the whole evening till late, around 10 pm, and then she will leave to go to the garage where she lives up on a litle loft. She has a comforter there inside a box.
Now I am temporarily living out of the State to be with my son and I miss her so much, but my neighbor is taking care of her, she feeds her every day, and she can see her around in the garden. The cat, her name Pisso, continues to live in the garage. I miss her so much and look forward to go back and see her.

Tapestry Panel Three Kittens (Beatrix Potter) in my eBay store
Being busy with my new cats and their kittens, I selected a tapestry panel showing a reproduction of the The Three Kittens from the book 'The Tale of Tom Kitten' by Beatrix Potter to include in my eBay store. The book tells the story of three little kittens who get into mischief. Their mother (Tabitha Twitchit) grooms and dresses them up for company she is having, then sends them out with the admonishment that they not get dirty. They not only get dirty but lose their clothes to some passing ducks. When they return, she hides them upstairs and tells her company that they have the measles. This particular panel can be used to make a little pillow cover or framed to hang on the wall in a child's bedroom, or in a kindergarten or 1st grade classroom.

The Health Benefits of Cat Ownership
Research shows that, pets can provide excellent social support, stress relief and other health benefits-perhaps more than people! Here are more health benefits of pets:Cats Can Improve Your Mood:
For those who love animals, it's virtually impossible to stay in a bad mood when a super-soft cat rubs up against you.
Cats can Control Blood Pressure Better Than Medication:
In a study, groups of hypertensive New York stockbrokers who got dogs or cats were found to have lower blood pressure and heart rates than those who didn't get pets. When they heard of the results, most of those in the non-pet group went out and got pets!
Pets Stave Off Loneliness and Provide Unconditional Love:
Pets can be there for you in ways that people can't. They can offer love and companionship, and can also enjoy comfortable silences, keep secrets and are excellent snugglers.
Pets Can Reduce Stress-Sometimes More Than People:
While we all know the power of talking about your problems with a good friend who's also a good listener, recent research shows that spending time with a pet may be even better! Recent research shows that, when conducting a task that's stressful, people actually experienced less stress when their pets were with them than when a supportive friend or even their spouse was present! (This may be partially due to the fact that pets don't judge us; they just love us.)
It's important to realize that owning a pet isn't for everyone. Pets do come with additional work and responsibility, which can bring its own stress. However, for most people, the benefits of having a pet outweigh the drawbacks. Having a furry best friend can reduce stress in your life and bring you support when times get tough.

- I loved reading your story and although sad in some places it looks like you and Pisso had a happy ending after all. We have 4 cats and 2 dogs and I agree with you they are such good listeners, the love they give can brighten any day. I could not imagine not having animals they are such a pleasure to have around and really are part of the family. Lensrolled to our "cat-and-kitten-essentials" lens.

- Pisso sounds like a sweet and unique cat! This is such a great lens about your little feline babies. I totally agree with those health benefits of owning a cat, or rather, our cats owning us. I can't imagine life without cats, especially my 13-year-old, Cherub, and my 19-year-old Angel. I always have my cats spayed and neutered, too. I know some people think it is cruel to do this to an animal, but it prevents future generations of cats from experiencing hunger, disease, cruelty and homelessness. Love the lens -- rated, faved and lensrolled to my Morris The Cat lens! Hugs to you, Pisso! ~Vicki~

- 5*...great lens, sweet story...I wish humans took more responsiblity in fixing their pets so they don't breed and then become the results of a rescue in a shelter....lenrolled this lens to "my feral cat named Kitty" lens

- It's really hard to turn down a cat looking for food. Right now there is a white one licking my arm. I love that you took in these stray cats and tried to find the others homes. Lensrolling to White Cats Can't Jump.
