Tips for getting the best deals:
Don't bid until the last day- preferably the last few minutes. You don't want your competitor to spend to much time thinking about how much they want that yarn!
Look for auctions without gallery pictures. Some people aren't willing to make that extra click to see what's in the lot, and will pass it by, resulting in a lower final price.
Make sure you figure in the shipping!! That adds up quickly.
Are you looking for a specific yarn or brand name? Search for some common misspellings of the words- maybe you'll find an auction everyone else missed!
You can get some great deals on yarn on ebay if you just keep looking. Go for it!

Don't despair! Who knows? You might find some lovely yarn at a thrift store or garage sale. I found a skein of handpainted Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Moody Blues for a dollar at a thrift store yesterday (retails for $22.00)
A must see for all frugal and/or environmentally sensitive knitters is the Squidoo lens on recycling yarn from other projects (buy a thrift store wool sweater, and unravel it for your own work of art).

Hobby Lobby is another good brick and mortars store to check for the odd ball of closeout yarn deeply discounted.

- Wow, 5* for a most helpful lens! Lots of great info and tips here! I've heard one: go to the secondhand store and find an old sweater with yarn you love, and unravel it. I haven't tried it myself but have heard others say it works great!
