A New Sound

With the re-release of their self-titled debut album on June 24, 2008, the LA-based Thriving Ivory have been doing pretty well for themselves. The hit song "Angels on the Moon" has been featured on VH1's Top 20 Countdown and Thriving Ivory is a "You Oughta Know" artist on the same channel. Although Clayton Stroope's voice may take a bit of time to get used to, the music is terrific and the lyrics amazing.

Their Story

Thriving IvoryThriving Ivory's story begins at Santa Barbara College in California, where singer Clayton Stroope met pianist and songwriter Scott Jason. Clayton Stroope says about the partnership, "I'm not a songwriter, and Scott doesn't sing. But Scott has this creative force inside him, and I just fit as an outlet for him." Guitarist Drew Cribley, bassist Bret Cohune, and drummer Paul Niedermier quickly joined the duo, completing Thriving Ivory. The band played gigs in Santa Barabara, but as soon as their fan base got big enough, relocated to San Francisco. Although they hadn't signed with a label, their music was being played on the radio and their MySpace page had over 500,000 hits. Thriving Ivory signed with Wind-Up Records in 2007, when they re-recorded their self-titled debut album, which was released in June 2008.

The band announced on April 21, 2010, that Bret Cohune has left the group to pursue other opportunities, making Thriving Ivory a four-man band.

Where We Belong Lyrics

The new single

We're too far out we're in too deep
And we've got miles to go before we can sleep
I said, we've been walking a thin line
You've got one hand on the devil baby and one hand in mine
But don't let go no it's not too late you know

Hold on we're gonna make it if it takes all night
Hearts racing like a rocket at the speed of light
Don't fight it we've been running for far too long
We're going back where we belong
So hold on we got our wings and we're chasing the wind
Farewell to all the places that we have been
And if it takes us all night long
We're going back where we belong

So we'll build temples in our heads
When we've grown frail and all our bones are of lead
We've been walking a winding road
Let's go, no footsteps to follow baby and no signs to guide us home
Don't let go, no it's not too late you know

Hold on we're gonna make it if it takes all night
Hearts racing like a rocket at the speed of light
Don't fight it we've been running for far too long
We're going back to where we belong
So hold on we got our wings and we're chasing the wind
Farewell to all the places that we have been
And if it takes us all night long
We're going back where we belong

See I have to believe that there's more than this seems
More than a soul in a boat in a sea of sinking dreams
And I have to be sure that there's gonna be a cure
For summer time line lost that bottom in its pour

But don't you let go yet no it's not too late you know
Hold on we're gonna make it if takes all night
Hearts racing like a rocket at the speed of light
Don't fight it we've been running for far too long
We're going back to where we belong
Hold on we got our wings and we're chasing the wind
Farewell to all the places that we have been
And if it takes us all night long
We're going back where we belong

Hold on we're gonna make it if it takes all night
Hearts racing like a rocket at the speed of light
And if it takes us all night long
We're going back where we belong
We're going back where we belong

these guys are really really good live! i saw them perform in chicago not too long ago. if anyone is interested in more live stuff, check them out at the Hotel Indigo music site. They were just recently added to Hotel Indigo's artist in the spotlight campaign. You can download free podcasts of live performances and watch video clips. Good stuff, trust me.
