Not Just a Sappy Dog Mom

Some people write about their kids and how as parents, they rediscover the world through their children's eyes. Me? I'm rediscovering the world through my puppy's eyes. Unfortunately, there's a lot more poop involved this way.

So, I'm writing this lens as a way to accomplish a few things:
1) To share what I'm learning for the best dog-owner experience
2) To share the cool rediscoveries I make thanks to my pup
3) To connect with other pet parents who love their quadrupeds

Yes, I'm a nerd. Which is why I'm making a learning experience out of getting a puppy.

What kind of dog is Nala?

she looks so... interesting.

I'm never sure if it's good or bad when strangers say "your dog's face is... interesting."

Nala's a boxer and lab mix, or so I'm told. When she was much younger, she definitely looked like a boxer; now the biggest sign of boxer-ness is just her underbite.

Pet stores sell a doggie DNA kit where you send in a cheek swab and they analyze it for different breeds. Someone told me it's accurate up to two breeds, then things start getting iffy. Any feedback?

Stuff Nala Likes

other than shoes of course

These are all things I actually buy for her. The food that has made her grow huge, the treats she will do anything in training for, and the toys that keep her away from my shoe collection.

Note: rope toys have not been good. She loves them but shreds them within days. I'm worried she'll fill her stomach with fiber that won't digest for 7 years.

Just getting started with Squidoo. I'm a writer, foodie, traveler, nonprofiteer, and of course, mom to a dog. Excited to get to know Squidoo. (more)
