This is a growing list of different ways you can use electrolysis on water for hydrogen production. Not all people have access to all items needed.This list will show ways you can improvise with household items, items from the hardware store , and items from places like lawn and garden stores. Included will be some of the more infamous plans in this niche group.

The Desert Rat Electrolyzer

This is a brief description of the unit I built. So far in testing it seems that I have doubled my mileage on a 1977 454 GMC Crew cab Grand Sierra ¾ - 1 ton pickup.I have limited resources so I meditated on the booster problem for several months, one day I woke up with this design. It is put together with several other designs in mind. I have no heat problems with it even when I push it over 25 amps. Using 12 volt force direct..
Parts list is as follows: 1- joint of 4 inch by 24 inch sewer pipe , 2 rubber stoppers 2 threaded caps 10 feet of 3/8 plastic tubing from home depot
Had to go to a local hardware store that stocked the nylon fittings (7 - 3/8 barbed / 1 inch barbed and 2 3/8 tees) and 316L 0.30 mig welding wire and stainless steel bolts. The separators were made from a piece of old fiberglass that I had laying around.
My first unit was made by cutting the 4 inch pipe in two then cutting 20 - 4 foot pieces of wire.
The grid on the fiberglass was drilled in a ¼ inch wide by 3/8 inch high pattern making 10 holes across with a space to tongue and groove the 2 pieces of 3 ½ by 8 ¾ inch.
I used a fuel pump to circulate distilled water and catalyst (hair and grease remover drain cleaner 1tsp per unit) using a windshield washer tank for holding tank and accumulator bubbler is 18 inch of 1 inch plastic tube.

This is not a how-to-do or build instructions list; this is just a possible parts list for an electrolyzer. Hydrogen is very explosive, check out the Hindenburg explosion below. This list is provided for entertainment and educational purposes only.
- Water - distilled water
- Glass jar/ standard mason jar works - Most grocery stores
- Plastic lids for jar - Stores with canning suplies DONT USE THE METAL ONE!!
- 12v power suply - car batery, AC to DC supplies - Radio Shack? amperage is dependent on how much catalyst you use in the water.
- Vinyl tubing - Used to vent the hydrogen - aquarium department, any hardware
store,Home Depot, Ace Hardware. - Bottle or container - To hold water for submerging the vent hose.
- Elbow fitting - find in the irrigation department of garden stores, Steins Gardens.
- Regulator- or a drip valve find in the irrigation department of garden stores, Steins Gardens.
- Electrolyte - Sodium Bicarbonate can be used which is pure Baking Soda. - most grocerie stores.
- Electrodes- 19GA stainless steel wire for hanging pictures. DON'T LET THE NEGATIVE TOUCH THE POSITIVE!! electode you will create a current short.
- Terminals- one for each polarity..so two each, 1/4 bolt,washer,nut, wing nut to secure the wires to the plastic lid.
- PVC tubing 1 3/4 inch OD - Cut to length to fit in the jar.
- Check Valve- one way pressure valve- any aquarium supply store
