Arthur Rackham's Faery World

From my Blog: www.thyme2dream.blogspot.com

I used to have a big poster of this painting on my wall when I was 16 and all I knew about it then was the caption said "Queen Mab". Many years later when I found it on the web it was entitled "Feeling Very Undancey Indeed," and when I researched it a bit more I discovered it was actually from Arthur Rackham's illustrations for J M Barrie's Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens.

Ah, so that explains why I loved the painting so much! I love J. M. Barrie~the world has lost way too much of its innocence these days. I work very diligently to hang on to as much of mine as I can~reading Peter Pan every few years is one of my favorite ways to accomplish this.

According to our beloved Mr Barrie, dancey is how the faeries say they are happy...so undancey is faerie-folk language for a wee bit dispirited or some such thing. It is Queen Mab, and the reason she is feeling undancey is too long to go into here, but Dover Publications just issued a new edition of the book with Arthur Rackham's original illustrations (see link in the "dancing with my muses" section:), so you can go and read the story for yourself if you are curious;)

One of the things I love most about Arthur Rackham's illustrations of Queen Mab is the beautiful tones of ivory and burgandy that he used...it seemed only natural when I was asked to create a wedding set in these colours that they should be named after the undancey faery Queen.

When I finished the tiara, I went to find the Undancey picture again and was delighted to see how much it the tiara looked like it belonged to her:)! I also made a hair clip, earrings, two necklaces and am currently working on a bracelet as well. They are my new personal favorites. These are for sale in my Etsy Shop, look for "Queen Mab's Wedding"

What will we call them?

An Ear Cuff by Any Other Name...

We have been busy busy busy with our first big "live" shows...

Ian is making displays and getting our tent ready and we realized that in order to talk to one another coherently about Thyme2dream ear decor, some of my pieces need better names!

SO~ as of now~ the
Emerald Forest Elven Ear Cuff at left and all cuffs with embellishments that sit on the ear are officially called Ear Vines.

My ever popular simple cuff is still called an ear cuff:) This is one of the first cuff designs I made, and still one of my top sellers.. And YES you can request this one in any Swarovski colour they make~no extra charge! I also have "ear cuffs" with wee gemstone shape beads;hearts, stars, and moons

Then we have the Bohemian Wraps...Ian with his cheeky sense of humour came up with the name for this style a while ago. He is a big Queen fan and thought it would be funny if my ear wraps which are rather boho and gypsy in style were named after Bohemian Rhapsody...I do humor him sometimes;)

So far, these are called 2 in 1 Ear Cuff Dangles..rather a pedantic name, but the idea is there. With this style, the basic ear cuff at top is embellished by the addition of one or more danglie bits. They are "2 in 1" because I make them so they can be worn with or without the dangles..kind of fun!

Fairy Bower Moonlight Blue Collection

The fairy bower collection was one I had in my mind for a long time before I actually begin to create it. I've almost finished the entire collection, so I thought it would be fun to put it all together in one post! I still want to do a "hair fancy" to go with this grouping, but everything else(including the all important MAGIC WAND;)is now for sale in my Etsy Shop.

Autumn Flame Amethyst & Copper Collection

October is a beautiful time of year in Kansas. The awful heat of summer has passed, we have deep blue skies, brilliant fiery leaves and crisp cool weather.

In the Flinthills, even our prairie grass changes colours, and we see vast expanses of deep golden-copper hue waving in the south wind. I created these pieces with our gorgeous autumn landscape in mind.

The tiara, necklace and earrings are available currently in my DaWanda Shop Here:
Thyme2dream DaWanda

And now also in my Etsy Shop Here:
Thyme2dream Etsy

Im thinking I will do an ear cuff and maybe a hair clip as well...if you have another request, feel free to contact me anytime:)

The Fae Come to call

Fancifully Magick-ing...Updates from Thyme2dream

Oh I am SO chuffed...my new friend Gini, aka www.Jess8Cass2.etsy.com sent photos of her adorable girls in their Halloween costumes- complete with Jewelry by yours truly. I knew these costumes were going to be delightful just from her description and I was not disappointed. Cassandra & Jessica look absolutely adorable..and look like they were born fae as well (the ears look so REAL)!

Their mum is a talented Chain Maille designer who I met at the Etsy Chainmaillers & Wire Artisans virtual trunk show a while back....this is my favorite piece from her shop (and since my family reads my blog, YES, it is on my Christmas wishlist;) Click the photo to be taken to the Etsy listing for this piece, or CLICK HERE for her Etsy storefront.
