Tibetan New Year Losar
I Wish You All an Auspicious Losar (Tibetan New Year)
In Buddhist countries the people white-wash their homes (paint them), clean their houses, set intentions for the coming year, prepare special feasts and perform a sang chod fire ceremony. Losar is also a time for starting fresh. Houses are thoroughly cleaned and decorated with lights and butter lamps.
Often Losar celebrations can last two weeks to one month. Losar is DIFFERENT from Chinese New Year which was held in January this year! The Tibetan people are a distinct nationality and there are some years when the two holidays overlap or occur on the same date.
There was an auspicious snow lion sighting in Tibet in January 2012.

The teachings of the Kalachakra tantra deal a great deal with astrology and the calculations involved. The Kalachakra is also known as the "Wheel of Time".

Serve some Po Cha or Tibetan Butter Tea

- Serves: 4 Cups
If you are going to have Khapsay you will need to accompany it with Tibetan Butter tea. In the monasteries in Tibet, Nepal and India they serve this delicious tea at every break or several times a day. It is a great way to keep warm!
Ingredients
- 4 Cups Boiling Water
- 2 Bags of Black Tea or you can use loose tea
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 Tablespoons Butter
- Between 1/3 to 1/2 cup milk or half and half
Instructions
First boil the water. Then add your tea. Put it in a lidded container, add all ingredients and shake or pour it into a blender and blend it. If you need more than 4 cups just adjust the ingredients by multiplying.
