The Best Selling Family Board Game - Ticket to Ride
We are big on playing games as a family. The most obvious factor when choosing a game is that it be very fun for each member of the family to play. The second criteria that we try to meet is that it be educational in some way, imparting knowledge or helping them learn strategy. The board game Ticket to Ride meets both criteria with flying colors.
Ticket to Ride is a game that was recommended to me by several homeschool families. It is great for learning and teaching about geography. The original version (there are several add-ons) teaches about the North American landscape. It is an award-winning strategy game that challenges players who are age eight and above to complete multiple train routes connecting major cities. As miniature trains begin to populate the board map of North America, secret city-to-city rail connections are completed or blocked by ruthless competitors. In addition to the North American version of Ticket to Ride there is also a Europe version. These games might be just what you need to help kids struggling with their geography or social studies lessons or classes and make family game night just a bot more exciting.
This game is made by Days of Wonder which a great company that makes some amazingly fun games.
What you Get: One board map of North American train routes, 240 colored train cars (including additional replacement cars), 144 illustrated cards, five wooden scoring markers, one rules booklet, one Days of Wonder online access ticket.

How to Play Ticket to Ride
The Rules of the Game
All the action takes place on a highly detailed, color-illustrated board map of North America. New players will want to dedicate 10 to 15 minutes to the instruction manual before playing, then pass out miniature trains, train-car cards, and destination tickets to each player. Game play is straightforward and consists of only three possible moves per turn: drawing an additional train-car card, drawing a destination ticket, or building a train route. The train-car cards are color-coded to match specific railway routes, so the basic idea is to collect multiple cards of the same color and then claim your desired route to score game points. Destination tickets present an added challenge by assigning secret routes such as "Seattle to Montreal" and awarding bonus points for the completion of those routes. Because the tickets are kept secret, each player's plan for total railway domination won't be revealed until the very end!
