Tidewater - Hampton Roads Events

Norfolk Harborfest

Norfolk Harborfest began more than a quarter century ago when the Norwegian Tall Ship Christian Radich came to call on Norfolk. Although the city had no proper area for tall ships to make port, berth was found for the vessel at the Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and 13,000 visited the ship.

Over the next two years, City planners and leaders created infrastructure to accommodate more ships, and a waterfront public park was planned.

Today, tall ships from all over the world visit the City of Norfolk and nearly half a million enthusiasts visit the downtown waterfront each year during the annual celebration.

The event features nautical history, maritime events, visiting vessels, children's activities, local, regional and national entertainment.

Suffolk Peanut Fest

The Suffolk Peanut Fest honors the city's agriculture heritage and devotion to peanuts. The Peanut Fest has been featured in numerous magazines, including Southern Living, The Southern Farmers Almanac, Best Festivals-Mid Atlantic, Sauveurs, a French Cooking Magazine and Virginia Business.

Suffolk Peanut Fest offers concerts, amusement rides, contests and competitions, a demolition derby, a truck and tractor pull, motorcycle rally, fireworks, as well as local and national entertainment.

The Suffolk Peanut Fest receives as many as 200,000 visitors over the four day event, attracting visitors from all over the USA and Canada.
