Natural Horsemanship Rope Halters

The rope halter is a vital tool for training horses using the natural horsemanship methods of Parelli, Anderson, Lyons and so many of the other famous clinicians. There is so much information on the internet about tying halters, but finding everything can be difficult. I am going to share with you everything that I learned about tying rope halters so you can be successful too.

With a little know-how and just a couple of everyday items you too can make your own rope halters.

The basic rope halter. Where it all begins.

Tools needed: 20 ft Rope, Scissors, Lighter, Ruler

Tips:
It only takes less than 20 ft of rope to tie the average horse size halter.
Make sure you begin off-center, by making the long side 5 ft longer than the short side.
If you can't tie the Fiador the way shown here, look below.

A little help with the Fiador knot.

Step 1.

Form a loop with one end of the rope, with the end on top of the standing part. Insert the second end through the loop.

Step 2.

Pull the end around and on top of the standing part. And weave the end under its own standing part, over and under the first end.

Step 3.

Take the first end and insert it through the loop.

Step 4.

Pull the loop and the two ends of the rope through the middle of the bend. Pull the two side loops in the opposite direction

Step 5.

When you look to the knot from the top, you see the very nice symmetrical structure of the fiador knot

Step 6.

Tighten and adjust loops by slipping rope through knot
