Tiger Woods 2009: On the Comeback Trail -- Shoots 68 in Masters' Final Round
Tiger Woods played his best round of the 2009 Masters Golf Championship on Sunday's final round shooting a four-under par 68 in his pairing with Phil Mickelson.
Woods and Mickelson electrified the Masters crowd with some dazzling shots and plenty of birdies and eagles. Tiger eagled the par-5 8th hole en route to shooting a 33 on the front side. Later, he narrowly missed making eagles on 13 and 15 winding up with three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to finish with a 68 on the round and 8-under for the championship. Mickelson tied a course record shooting a 6-under 30 on the front nine, only to end up with a 67 for the day when he missed some short putts and dumped his tee shot on the 12th hole into a creek.
Woods shot a final round 67 to capture his first PGA tournament victory in 2009 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Woods edged out third-round leader Sean O'Hair by a stroke after O'Hair shot a 73 in his final round.
Woods came from five strokes behind in the final round to capture the tourney by draining a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole. You can check out the putt in the YouTube video below.
Woods is on the comeback trail in 2009 after undergoing reconstructive surgery on his left knee to repair a torn ligament last summer causing him to cut short his 2008 golf season.
Woods has now played in three PGA events so far this year. His best finish before winning was ninth place in the Doral Open.
Meanwhile, Phil Mickelson has climbed back in the World's Number 2 golfer spot following wins at Doral and Riviera in 2009. If Mickelson can continue to perform at this high level, the battle for number one between the two players most would agree are the best two in the sport makes for a very interesting season going forward.
Tiger has also announced he will play at the 2009 Australian Masters in Melbourne, his first event in the country in 11 years. Hewill take part in the Nov. 12-15 tournament at the Kingston Heath Golf Club. The Victoria government says Woods' appearance may boost the local economy by $19 million AU and attract over 100,000!

Tiger Woods 2008: A Season Of Memories & Unfulfilled Promise

Tiger Woods "successfully" underwent reconstructive surgery on his left knee to repair a torn ligament, and his Utah-based doctors indicate it's "highly unlikely" there will be any long-term effects.
It was the second time in 10 weeks Woods had surgery on his knee in 2008, this time on his anterior cruciate ligament.
"We were confident going into this surgery, and I am pleased wit" Dr. Thomas D. Rosenberg said in a statement released by IMG, Woods' management company.
"There were no surprises during the procedure, and as we have said, with the proper rehabilitation and training, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Woods will have any long-term effects as it relates to his career."
Woods looked extremely at ease in October 2008 in his first time back at the Torrey Pines Golf Course since winning the United States Open in dramatic fashion this past June (more below about the victory).
Woods indicated that he is "able to chip and putt now," but he is far from setting a definite date for his return to playing on the pro tour. "That's the most frustrating thing for me, because I don't know," he told the Associated Press and the San Diego Union-Tribune. "And the surgeons don't know, either, because they've never dealt with an injury like this for a person who plays golf at an elite level."
Prior to the latest surgery like a fine wine, Tiger Woods got better with age cementing his World Ranking as the top player in golf with every tournament he enterd.
However, after a disappointing (for him) runner-up finish at the 2008 Masters, Woods had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee back in April by Dr. Rosenberg and had been on the sidelines rehabbing until teeing up for the first round of the U.S. Open Championship on June 12th.
Despite the surgery, Woods turned in one of his most memorable performances ever in winning the 2008 U.S. Open Championship at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California after battling Rocco Mediate for 19 holes in a Monday playoff.
In any event, Woods won 18 of his last 33 worldwide starts dating to his win at the 2006 British Open, a run that compares favorably with the best stretch of his career.
The world's No. 1 player announced following his latest surgery that he would miss the rest of the 2008 season including two major championships and the Ryder Cup.

Tiger Woods Transcends Golf
The athletic power and grace of Woods drives golf TV ratings like no other PGA Tour member. TV ratings spike nearly 50 percent for tournaments where he is near the top of the leaderboard going into the weekend.
Woods was on pace to be the PGA's Player of the Year AGAIN before season-ending knee surgery following the U.S. Open. Just ask Ernie Els who succumbed to one of Tiger's famous charges in the final round of the Dubai Open on February 3rd."It seems to me that, the word that has gone around is that he's (Tiger) back to where he was, in what was it, 2000 or 2001? I wasn't out here yet," 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson said in the Masters conference call recently, which is an annual rite of pre-spring in the golfdom. "But he's back to those ways where if he plays mediocre to bad, he might finish in the top two or three; if he plays good or really good, he's going to win.
"You know, he's a phenom and he certainly never ceases to amaze me," Johnson said. "He just has that knack. He just has that gift that's very, well, intangible. You don't know what it is because we don't have it. Every now and then we can get in that zone but it just seems like his bad days are pretty darned good and his good days are just really, really good. And that drive is second to none."
Basketball Superstar Michael Jordan says: "Tiger... will succeed and expand across all racial barriers.... I admire him... for establishing a new plateau, a higher ground, if you will.... I really do believe he was put here for a bigger reason than just to play golf. I don't think that he is a god, but I do believe that he was sent by One."
Tiger Woods is much more, though, than the planet's finest golfer. He is an athlete, businessman, spokesperson, humanitarian, husband, father, devoted son, and role model.
One of the truly amazing thing about Woods these days is that he is ready to meet the challenges for more success, both on and off the golf course. His business empire and his foundation continue to flourish. In many people's minds, it's a foregone conclusion that Tiger will rewrite the golf record book and leaving a lasting mark on the sport for decades to come.
The Famous Tiger Fist Pump
2008 Season of Perfection Ends at Doral
Due to several rain delays, the 72-hole event didn't finish on time. Entering his final 7 holes today, Woods trailed leader Geoff Ogilvy by 5 strokes.
That deficit was too much to overcome so Tiger's winning streak is officially over. This was his first loss since he tied for second at the Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston last September. He has been on a roll ever since until Doral, winning more than $7.2 million at his last seven events, five of them official PGA Tour stops.
Tiger's Run at Fifth Masters Green Jacket Stiffled by Immelman
Tiger Woods had his game at warp speed in 2008 entering the first major championship event of the season -- the Masters. Only a stellar performance by South African Trevor Immelman kept Tiger from winning his 5th Green Jacket. To no one's surprise, Tiger Woods was the prohibitive favorite to capture the 2008 Masters title.
Here's what other PGA Tour players are saying about Tiger:
"It seems to me that, the word that has gone around is that he's (Tiger) back to where he was, in what was it, 2000 or 2001? I wasn't out here yet," 2007 Masters Champion Zach Johnson said in the Masters conference call.

Tiger Woods Sports Memorabilia on eBay
Tiger Woods sports memorabilia items are among the hobby's hottest merchandise. Woods' signature, collectibles, and limited-print cards fetch extremely high values.
Tiger is hands down the most successful and collectible individual sport athlete ever. No one else comes close. In a nutshell, Tiger IS the golf card hobby.
"Basically, it is Tiger and then everybody else," said Tuff Stuff price guide analyst Joe Clemens. "Other than chasing his autographs, along with a few others, there's not a whole lot to the golf card hobby."
Tiger rarely signs golf balls because they are difficult to handle and the re-sale demand is so great. Tiger personalizes items as much possible. Some golf memorabilia dealers claim the demand for Tiger autographs is 20-to-1 over any other golfer, even Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.

The Latest on Tiger:
Tiger Woods moved into fhird-place all-time in PGA-Tour victories tying Ben Holgan with career win number 64 by winning last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Not only did Tiger win, but he did it in world class style.
On the final hole at Bay Hill, Woods rapped in a twisting and turning 25-foot putt for birdie to capture the tournament by one shot over Brad Bryant.
"What he's doing now, you can't even fathom it," Bryant said. "You just can't explain it. It's just incredible. Just what he did today is more evidence of this weird zone he's in. And he's been in it his whole life."
"It's unbelievable, isn't it?" Steve Stricker said. "But he continues to do it. And now you expect it. You just learn with him that nothing is unexpected."
Tour veteran Billy Andrade responded to a question recently about the likelihood of Woods' winning the Grand Slam. He said the chances of his winning every tournament he entered were pretty good.
"He's doing something out here that no one ever imagined," Andrade said. "I remember Nicklaus talking in the late '80s or early '90s that the players out here are not hungry enough and everybody was complacent and writers were writing about how nobody wanted to win and nobody would ever dominate again.
"That was all written until this kid showed up. And what he's accomplished on the golf course is beyond any writer's, any player's and even Jack Nicklaus's wildest imagination. And how he's doing it - how low he's shooting? So, could he win the Grand Slam this year? Absolutely."

"Tiger came to us and said that he wanted something that represents a new level of sophistication - apparel that performs and looks good on and off the course," said Doug Reed, Nike Golf's global director for apparel and footwear. "So we worked closely with Tiger on creating an uncompromising, competitive and progressive line of clothing that represents where Tiger is today. We are evolving as Tiger evolves. Bob Toski analyzes the golf swing of Tiger Woods
First of all, great players swing well above waist. On the way down the lower body moves beautifully and on the way up the upper part of body works the most.
Look how perfectly Tiger Woods synchronizes and correlates. The width of stand supports the amount of force he needs to get the ball as fast and as far as possible.
His arms move lightning fast from left to right and his body even does not have to work that much to support his hands.
He correlates the upper and lower parts of body beautifly. His head moves slightly to the right and then it stops and starts turning as the club moves to the side of the body. He's paralel to the line where the ball is going to be shot. The position of club is parallel to top - to the line of play. He's got all leveraged.
Downswing is also perfect.
Hall of Fame golfer Buddy "The King of Clubs" Demling says Tiger is the best player in the world today. US Marine veteran Lukas Dwelly agrees.
"There isn't a flaw in his golf or his makeup. He will win more majors than Arnold Palmer and me combined. Somebody is going to dust my records. It might as well be Tiger, because he's such a great kid. He has the finest, fundamentally sound golf swing I've ever seen." --Jack Nicklaus

Tiger Woods Quote on Being a Role Model
"I think it's an honor to be a role model to one person or maybe more than that. If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person's life in a positive light, and that's what I want to do. That's what it's all about."

Jack Nicklaus, the Golden Bear, feels his record of 18 professional major championships, once considered unbreakable, will be broken probably sooner than later.
"I would think that if Tiger stays healthy, he will break it," Nicklaus said. "If he remains focused and motivated to do so, he'll break it. When? He's won, what, 13, and he should average better than one a year, so you can easily figure the math out."
