TILLANDSIA

The bromeliad genus TILLANDSIA is a popular genus of plants raised by discriminating plant lovers everywhere. Originally, TILLANDSIA species were found from southern United States through Mexico and Central America to Brazil and beyond in South America. As a group they are called air plants since they can get their water from rain and their nutrients from rain and airborne dust and decaying organic matter. They are easy to grow as most of them require lower levels of light and can stand periods of drought. Most of them can be mounted on a board or on a limb in a tree or grown in osmunda. They reproduce by producing pups as is common in the bromeliad family. See Bromeliads

Best TILLANDSIA Source Book.

There are not many good references for TILLANDSIAS alone. However, one excellent one was published in Japan several years ago and is now out of print. If you can find a copy of it, it would be worth it to obtain it.

eBay Shopping

The eBay information is updated automatically. Some of it might be helpful and some not. I have seen some great bargains advertised on eBay. Usually, individuals selling plants on eBay are collectors selling their excess plants and therefore are good plants. However, you need to be careful. You can usually get healthy plants in these auctions, but getting the plant or cultivar named is another thing. Often, the plant shown is not named correctly. This need not make a difference if you want the pictured plant, but if you want to be certain to get a specific species or cultivar, you need to order from reputable nurseries.
