Have fun using the new Tim Holtz Rosette Die from Sizzix

Check back for more ideas and tips for making and using these hot new embellishments on your scrapbook pages, cards and other paper crafting projects. The rosette featured in this photo will be used to embellish my Christmas-themed Configurations box

Rosette Die Basics

The new Tim Holtz Rosette Die is manufactured by Sizzix. It is part of the Decorative Strip line of thin dies. It is easy to use in the Sizzix brand die cutting machines such as the Big Shot, Big Kick and new Vagabond machine. It is also compatible with the older Sizzix Sidekick. The Cuttlebug by Cricut will also accommodate the Decorative Strip dies. I

Using this die in any of the machines requires the use of longer cutting platforms and/or cutting plates. The bed of the Big Shot is not long enough to support the entire length of the die without the added support of the longer plates.

My Tips for Using the Rosette Die

a few things I've learned

  • It really does help to hold all the layers of your die cut sandwich together while running it through the die cut machine
  • If the layers twist apart, your paper is likely to move and mess up your cut
  • The base of your rosette can be any scrap of cardstock. Make sure it is large enough to give plenty of surface area for your adhesive
  • I use at least one large Glue Dot on my base
  • Don't worry if the center of your flattened rosette is not perfect--it will be covered by the top seal
  • Ranger Ink's Glossy Accents are great for adhering the top seal onto your rosette. Hot glue is another suggested adhesive.
