Tim Berry MD - Doctor Goes Insane and Quits Medicine to Pursue Freedom!

On May 14, 2002 at 2:00 am it happened.  This was the 4th night in a row, working in the ICU on critically ill patients; and my 4th night in a row away from my 2 y.o. daughter and my wife who was 8 1/2 month pregnant.  All of a sudden I realized that this wasn't the lifestyle I had envisioned when I was planning my medical career.

Several months earlier my daughter had begun to speak.  Her first word was the expected, "Momma," but in this case she directed it toward our nanny instead of one of us.  My wife was a busy physician as well.  She worked about 60-70 hours per week, while I was working about 90-100.  One of us was always on call at one of the local hospitals.

From the outside looking in, we had it made.  Two physician family, soon to have 2 healthy children, living on a beautiful farm overlooking the mountains between TN and NC.  But to us, we were starting to realize that we didn't want to live this way for the next 30 years. The writing was on the wall.

I never had the time to look at any other option.  When I was 9 y.o. my mother told me I was going to be a physician.  It sounded pretty cool.  Some of the doctors I knew had nice homes, pools, and fancy cars.  That made sense to me.

But what do you do when you are already working 100 hours per week?  What are your options?  A paper route?  Perhaps some moonlighting in the ER?  go back to school? Not a chance...

I picked-up a copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad and began my quest to become a Rich Dad after that 4th night away from my wife and daughter.  I went on to hire Robert Kiyosaki to be my mentor.  During that time, I gained a full grasp on linear income vs. residual income and knew that I would never waste time chasing the linear, but instead would devote my life to creating and enjoying residual income.

It didn't happen overnight, but instead it took about 2 years to create enough residual to replace my medical income.  I did it through network marketing, which I believe is the best way for anyone who is low on money, time (me), or both to realistically begin creating a residual income cash machine.

As I began to regain my personal family time, I continued building my network marketing business, but I also started doing other things.  We started traveling all over the world with our kids.  I also had time to pursue my hobby of internet marketing which is fun, challenging, and always changing.

Some say I lost my marbles.  I say I found freedom!

Great stuff here...inspired! Especially love from your New Year's Resolutions..."Fitness Plan: Chew my food 32 times"...family story from my mom that her dad always talked about chewing your food to savor the flavor rather then just gulp it down or eat something without appreciating it!

I don't know much about the internet but I do know that "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" is one of my favorites! Books like this can make a difference in your life. Looks like you have a lot of fun and enjoy helping people, that is about as good as it gets.
