Effective Time Management... or How to Fail Completely
Ranked #1,160 in Squidoo Community, #117,235 overall
My long time issues with Time Management
Aaah-haaa! But then again I don't think academia is my forte.
So my lack of discipline in the art of effective time management then had nothing to do with how filled with responsibilities my life seems now.
I always loved art and to read. My creative side must be engaged to get through the most mundane of tasks. I usually accomplish this by thinking "how can I do this better?". Which starts me off in another direction than the task at hand itself... Now what was I saying?
Maybe I have A.D.D. I've done 2 other tasks in between creating the Lens Title and writing this Introduction?
Or is this the way it is these days with everybody? Too much to accomplish in too little time in this frantically fast paced world.
This lens will most likely be a life-long project since I have had this chronic disease for 47 years and counting...
Effective Time Management
How to cure my multi-tasking disability
OK, well, I do have to check my email.
What, the dog needs to go out?
Someone's at the door.
Phone's ringing.
Check my email.
I swear I will come back to this in a minute,
Really, I will.

- I was thinking today how tired people get about new tools and processes for this stuff. Having a great process is one answer but having a sense of humor is the killer app of them all. Thanks for this. Ant

- Great point! People do not succeed, because they believe they do not. It's not because of the obstacles, challenges and everyday life. This can change only at will!

- E-mail is not high on my list, but I love to read. I'll stop what I'm doing and read a page, get back to work, read a couple of pages, work, read a chapter... Before I know it I'm curled up on the sofa with the book.
I love your intro picture.

- Email checking used to be a big vice of mine, but my Blackberry took care of that. Now, it's checking my Blackberry - which doesn't take nearly as much time and alerts me when I have a message (great for anyone that has the compulsion to check there's constantly!). It's tough to get organized, but in the end, it really does make you more productive and happy. Great idea for a lens!

- This really made me smile! I like deadlines... the more time I have, the more scattered my attention becomes. And the Internet makes is way too easy to get distracted. I'm really enjoying your lenses and you seem like a lovely lensmaster as well as a talented one. Wishing you best of luck with all your Squidooing!

- I've been told in the past I'm an 'organized' person, but if you could see my house right now ... with several 'projects' scattered here and there and piles of paperwork to sort through, and tending to skip from one thing to another without completing any of them.... you'd think I needed Time Management. I was much more organized when I was working, due to necessity. Since retirement, things have become "what do I FEEL like doing at this moment, thus the chaos! I guess my New Year's Resolution should be to get back to the 'better organized' person I used to be. Or go back to work :-), which seemed to keep me on course! Fun lens.

- My professional career was ruled by my day runner book (before everyone had a Blackberry or other PDA). Today I work at home and the discipline is more difficult, so I schedule errands in the morning on specific days, then I can be multi-tasking at the computer for the rest of the day and night. I work more hours now than when I was younger ... but I'm definitely happier. Plus, I can drop it all, load up the laptop and suitcase into the car and take off to stay with the grandkids whenever I want to. Can't put a price on that freedom!
