A timer can keep you motivated

I find it amazing that just by setting a timer I can motivate myself to do so much more. First of all I had to realize that I could do ANYTHING for 15 minutes - no matter how much I didn't want to do it. Fifteen minutes is an achievable goal.

The other view of this is that as an entreprenuer it is so easy to get side tracked and be tied up in a project that when I really need to move on. That little timer can keep me going. Not that what I was doing wasn't valuable or important but at that time I needed to be doing something else. I can set a timer for 15, 20, 30 minutes to allow myself to be completely committed to a project and not lookiing at the clock every few minutes.

Timers for Kids

They can really be motivated

A great motivator for getting children to help complete a project is to set a timer. If they know they only have to clean there room for 15 minutes they will rush around to get it done - knowing they can be back at their previous play/movie/game in just a few minutes. Instead of yelling at them continually to pick up or put away, let them know there is a set limit of time. If they work that set time (15 minutes is a good time but see what they can do in just 5 minutes) they can play and you won't yell. Isn't that a win, win for both of you?
It works on outside projects as well as inside projects. With school starting it might be good for getting home work done.

I MUST use my timer when baking. I take it all over the house, wherever I am. Otherwise I always forget I'm baking until I smell BURNING! :-(
    Horray for the timer.
We use the timer for spelling and sometimes math (homeschool).

I can't imagine using a timer for writing stuff. I do think it might help. Online it's just so easy to loose track of time... but still, I don't think it's for me.
