Welcome to my lens about Tinkertoy Building Sets
History of Tinkertoys Building Sets
A stonemason from Evanstone, Illinois was the inventor of Tinkertoys, his name is Charles Pajeau. He established the 'Toy Tinkers' Company. He was inspired to create Tinkertoys by watching children play with pencils, pens and empty thread spools. Designing his first set of Tinkertoys in his garage. He took his designs to a toy fair in 1914 but turned out that no one was interested in them. Using some great marketing skills he hired midgets dressed in elfs costumes to play with these tinkertoys in a display window in a Chicago department store. This got the public's attention. Due to this a year later he had sold over 1 million sets of Tinkertoys!
