Ear Infection
Poor hygiene that leads to the buildup of ear wax within the ears can bring forth this condition. Ear waxes are a form of defense mechanism of our body by trapping unwanted materials and letting it out through the outer ear. These unwanted materials include dust, microbes, and dead cells. The human body has a way of cleaning itself by collecting these foreign objects to be expelled out of the system. The only things that the body expels are the things that it thinks it does not need.
Such ear wax formation can clog the ear canal up to the middle ear. If one would observe, the ear wax is in a semi-liquid form. Since it has the properties of a liquid, this substance can also harden. Hardening of the ear wax can be a predisposing factor for ear infection, and it is one of the known causes of tinnitus.
Aging
Most high blood pressure cases can be attributed to aging. As the pressure of blood in our vessels rises, the other organs surrounding and connected to these nerve vessels will have the inability to function well. This is because every part of the human body is interconnected with one another. Thus, if a nerve connected to the ear is given pressure more than it can handle, it can lead to tinnitus.
Physical exercise helps prevent tinnitus. Most old people experiences poor blood circulation due to lack of exercise. You see, blood circulates throughout our body, and exercise aids in this circulation. Blood carries all the nutrients and anti-bodies that the each body part needs, including the ears.
Occupation
Most employees of the construction industry use machineries that produce loud noises. The loud sounds generated by the equipments in this industry are also linked to tinnitus causes. Thus, workers in this field are prone to developing tinnitus later in life.
Other occupations that may expose the auditory system to abuse are that of a DJ or a rock musician. The excessively high volume music is produced by the use of amplifiers or speakers. The loud noise coming from these instruments can damage the ears and a factor for the development of ringing ears.
As stated above, ringing ears can be attributed to different causes. But these tinnitus causes can be downplayed in order to prevent the annoying and often times painful ringing in the ears.

Ears - What Wikipedia has to Say
The ear is the organ that detects sound. The vertebrate ear shows a common biology from fish to humans, with variations in structure according to order and species. It not only acts as a receiver for sound, but plays a major role in the sense of balance and body position. The ear is part of the auditory system.
The word "ear" may be used correctly to describe the entire organ or just the visible portion. In most animals, the visible ear is a flap of tissue that is also called the pinna and is the first of many steps in hearing. In people, the pinna is often called the auricle. Vertebrates have a pair of ears, placed symmetrically on opposite sides of the face. This arrangement aids in the ability to localize sound sources.
