Affiliate Marketing Tips

Some of you have sent me e-mails asking if I have any tips about affiliate marketing to share with those new to the internet business. As a matter of fact, I do. However all of these affiliate tips are accumulated through hard work and my personal experience. I  DO NOT have a magic solution to make you rich over night, nor will I ever make such a claim. But what I will say is that if you follow my common sense tips, you WILL BE successful and earned the desired income.

While there is serious money to be made in the world of affiliate marketing, it should not be entered into willy-nilly. Just like any other business venture, the proper research should be done so that you know ahead of time how much money, time and effort you can expect to spend before you see a profit. Here is a short list of expectations that people sometimes have wrong about affiliate marketing. Read the tips carefully as they will help you clear up any misconceptions you might have or you might have heard of and always keep these affiliate tips in my mind as you start your journey towards internet marketing.

Affiliate tip #1 - Just like a good highway, you have got to have traffic. You can be selling the best product in the world, have an attractive website design and have the best content on the Internet and if no one can find your site, you aren't going to make any money. Keep in mind that attractive web site, theme and color schemes are only appealing if someone sees them. Far too many new affiliates spend too much time on making their site look pretty and not enough time promoting their site.

What to do? You can buy advertising to drive traffic to your site, but that costs money, usually more money then you are taking in. It's a very fine line to walk; a tightrope that most people fall off of into debt. It is going to take time and experience to learn the proper formula, and you should expect some debt until you figure out the right combination. Remember the old adage "it takes money to make money", however it does not have to cost a fortune. Affiliate tip #2 - Remember, if you follow the same tips as everyone else, chances are the market is already saturated with sites using the same techniques. This may be the toughest part of affiliate marketing, trying to figure out exactly the right technique to attract customers to your site and away from 100 other affiliate marketing sites that are selling essentially the same thing. The only real way to handle this is to stick to the basics. Believe in the product you sell, design an attractive site to sell it and write good content to keep people on your site and clicking on the links on your site. If you are patient, this formula, more often then not, will work, but it will take some time.

If you have done any kind of research on the internet, then I'm sure you have heard the phrase "Content is King" and it's 100% true. People visit the internet to get information not buy products, the buying part naturally occur as a result of your good content and recommendations. Therefore your focus should always be to inform your site visitors so that they make informed decisions and buy your recommended product. The most common mistake made by most affiliates is to "SELL" rather than "Inform". I Know because I've made these mistakes. So take this affiliate tip to heart and you will not go wrong.

Affiliate Tip #3 - Updates, updates, updates. Many new affiliate marketers think that all you need is that first shiny, new webpage with original content and then you just leave the page be for the next six months and watch the money roll in. It just doesn't work that way. You have to be ready to add new content to your page every two weeks at the most. Change the theme on your page to show visitors that you're updating constantly. If you are coming up on Easter or Thanksgiving, change your site to show this. It's reassuring to web surfers that they are visiting a page run by someone who is paying attention.

Affiliate Tip #4 - Don't bite more than you can chew. If you make use of only one of my new affiliate tips, then make sure it's this one. Most people start with good intension and very quickly spread themselves to thin trying to do too much and make things happen overnight. Make a plan, figure out how much time you are going to spend every night or every other night and ON WHAT.

For example, I spend about 1 ½ hrs one Monday - Wednesday and Saturday writing one articles; which means I write 3 articles per week. On Tuesday and Friday I spend about 40 Minutes per night building links and promoting my site. I take Sundays off. This is a great tip especially if you are just starting out and need to manage your time. Also this helps you to break the monotony and keeps you interested.

Affiliate Tip #4 - READ.  One of the biggest challenges faced by new affiliates is that they have very little confidence in their ability to write content. Most common complaint is "I'm not a writer", "I don't know what to write". Folks, writing is simple if you know a bit about the subject. Therefore, set aside 25 minutes a night to read a book or magazine on your topic and I guarantee you'll have more to write about than you will have time to do it. Another great tip here is that when you write share your personal experiences. This helps you accomplish two things; one it makes writing much easier and two people will relate to you at a personal level than just some guy or gal giving them his/her two cents worth.

Affiliate Tip #5 - Don't talk abut it DO IT. I can not stress this enough, don't just sit there and let the money making opportunity go by you, grab it, do something with it. I'm sure you have heard the saying, "there 3 kinds of people in the world, those that make things happen, those that watch things happen, and those that just wonder what the heck happened", unfortunately most people fall into the second category, they just watch things happen. My point here is that these affiliate tips are not going to do you any good unless to you do something with them.
