Tips to Lower Cholestrol
Lowering Cholesterol
A Few Useful Tips:
The most important tip is our diet. We need a certain amount of cholesterol in order to be healthy, but excessive amounts of saturated fat in our diet can have a detrimental effect. It is important to monitor what we eat and limit fatty foods such as full-fat dairy products, liver and egg yolks. More healthy foods are lean meat (skins removed), fish, fruit, vegetables and specially developed low fat spreads and yogurts.Secondly, check your weight. We all know that being overweight increases the risk of heart disease and high blood cholesterol levels. Very often by altering your diet you can also monitor your weight. Regular exercise is important to keep weight at a reasonable level, and there are lots of resources available to help us lose it. Doctors will gladly help to create a suitable diet plan and monitor progress and cholesterol levels. Fitness clubs and gyms not only provide equipment and training but also there is the social benefits too.
Smoking cigarettes has been proven to be a great factor in increasing cholesterol and heart attacks. As it is now socially unacceptable to smoke in many public places it may be a good time to stop.
Willpower alone is often not enough but yet again there is help available for those who seriously want to give up smoking.
Some are unfortunate to suffer types of heart disease and diabetes and your doctor will help to reduce cholesterol levels through medication in these cases.
If altering your diet and lifestyle does not help either, then there are many prescription drugs available, again it is best to see your GP for advice on which is the most effective treatment for you.
Through regular exercise and a sensible diet I have managed to maintain my cholesterol to a reasonable level. I wish you every success in your venture towards a healthier lifestyle.
