The best way to reduce wrinkles

... is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Even if you have aging skin that's already showing signs of wrinkles, you can halt them in their tracks. Facial skin care is important, but truly ageless beauty comes from within. Still, you want that inward beauty reflected on the outside. And I know you're tired of being chastised for tanning too much 30 years ago. So, I've collected the top 3 causes of wrinkles that you can actually DO something about.

3 Treatable Causes of Wrinkles

  1. Smoke. You knew it was coming. Sure, it's better if you'd never smoked at all, but you can't change that now. What you can change is today. Quit now!! Your wrinkles will drastically slow their progress, and some research shows that quitting actually makes your wrinkles appear less deep. And in case you're convinced that your facial skin care products are enough to counteract the damage, consider your hands. They give away your age, even if you manage to keep your face looking young.
  2. Sun. I'm not talking the damage that's been done. You can find products that will help reduce wrinkles caused by naïve tanning practices - can you believe we covered cardboard in tin foil to get more sun on our faces?!? - but a vow to use SPF 30 or more every day from now on will really slow signs of aging skin. Wrinkles, ruddiness, and discoloration are all sun-related skin problems, and they can all be stopped with sunscreen. To me, that's the one product that prevents more skin troubles than any other.
  3. Water. Lack of water, actually. Think about aging skin, how it gets dry and papery, and the wrinkles just go along with that. Hydration is so important to ageless beauty. Moisturizers are great, and you should definitely use one, but they don't add water to your skin. They work by keeping the water already there from escaping into the dry air. What moisturizers don't do is keep the water from being absorbed from the inside! Your skin is made of a lot of water, but the rest of our body needs it too. So if your body is dehydrated, your skin will show it. This might be the easiest tip so far - just drink water! 8 glasses a day is a common recommendation, but did you know that's only an 8 oz. glass? A soda is 12 oz. so that's about a 6-pack of H2O per day. I don't like these kinds of rules though - if I'm a 150 lb. female working in a cubicle, I can't possibly need as much water as a 250 lb. male who works outside in the sun all day. So I say, drink as much as you can! I mean this within reason, you can actually get water poisoning, but the average person is in no danger of that. Bottoms Up!

Change your habits, change your life

Of course, changing these habits is more than just a good way to reduce wrinkles. These tips are good advice for anyone - at least anyone in our galaxy! Maybe sun is good for aliens' skin but until we learn their secret, I say drop that cigarette, smooth on some SPF, and pick up a glass of water!
