Tips on training a puppy

The most important to train a dog generally, are his first months when he/she is a pup. I will provide some tips on training a puppy. If you train your pup well it will pay off later, because almost every animal (including humans) learn in their first part of life. This is why it's so important to train your pup well because he is willing to learn at this stage of his life. In this article I will give you some basic tips that you can apply on (almost) every breed.

The Tips

Tip 1: Playing is not only fun

It is very important for your pup to have social contacts with other dogs toward having a well-adjusted, well-behaved pet. Of course it's a lot of fun for your dog (and you) to go for a walk, but it is still important to get him out of the house and into the outside world. An example: Pups mostly bark at things and beings that they are not familiar with, if you go for walk your dog can discover that it is nothing to worry about and after a few times he won't bark again at that "thing". You can avoid problems and even help solve existing ones.

Tip 2

Learning Commando's

I recommend to start with an easy trick such as sit! When you want to learn your pup a commando you should keep a few things in mind. When you start to train use a reward like a dog cookie, move the cookie slowly over his head and he will usually sit down, if so you give him the reward and say something as "good dog!". Keep in mind that your dog is a simple mind and he will probably learn by Trail & Error, if he does something and get rewarded for it he will do it again because he needs the food to "survive". One last thing only say the commando once if you repeat it more than ones he will learn to sit after that you say five times sit!

Tip 3

"Potty training"

One of the most occurring problems with pups is that they can't hold up their excrements and urine, or they don't know that you want them to do it outside. First I can tell you this NEVER push the pups head in his own excrements and urine, that's like the worst thing you can do. When your puppy is too young to go for a walk cover a part of the floor up with newspaper and when you see your pup taking a leak put him on the newspaper when his is going by himself to the newspaper you can start to take it outside and finally skip it. When he's ready to go for a walk it's very important that you have fixed times and you stick to these times. On the expensive your dog will know when you go for a walk and hold up until that specific time.
