Getting Tips for Buying a Piano: A Must

There are things that you must do when picking a piano. Here are just some of them:

1) Look for any damaged parts. Assess how bad the damage is if there is any. Scratches are no big deal, broken keys are.

2) Do all of the keys work? Do any stick?

3) Are any of the strings broken? How many?

4) Is it properly tuned? Big question to ask: when was the last time it was tuned? Pianos that haven't been tuned in a long time are harder to keep in tune so it'll cost you more to maintain them.

5) How is the action on the piano? Are the keys too easy or too hard to press? It should be somewhere in the middle.

6) How is the sound? Is it too "metally" or "tinny"? This is a sign that it should be tuned.

7) Do the pedals work? The left one should make the sound softer and the right one should sustain the sounds you just played.

This is by no means a comprehensive list but luckily VERY comprehensive lists are easily found on the internet.

I have compiled the best websites and resources here that should be a big help for you when picking out a piano.

Buying Pianos Online

I used to be a huge skeptic of buying pianos online but then my best friend got his off of eBay.

The quality was really good and was exactly as the seller had described it.

It was delivered on time and was very well taken care of.

The whole process was just so simple and pleasant that it turned me into a believer of buying piano on the internet.

However, it's always good to be able to try the piano before you buy it. If you'd really rather prefer to do that, I do suggest buying from a store near you.

If you're not a pianist yourself though, it can actually be beneficial to take the sellers word for it since they are aware of it's good and bad qualities and can speak for it's condition the best.

Piano, revisited. Bluffton Arkansas.

Since you got a piano now...

If you've just bought your first piano, chances are you don't have your piano library built up too much yet.

You can get good quality sheet music here for a really cheap price (couple bucks).

The reason you will want to pay a couple of bucks for music is because a lot of free sheet music has a lot of errors in it since it has just been hastily transcribed.
