Day 3-2008
Wintertime makes staying fit a bit trickier with Holiday feast and gathering, cold weather our activities slow down as the change of food called comfort foods blend onto the table. However, are they comfort foods those creamy dish casseroles, sweetened deserts, coco drinks and many more we have come to enjoy in the colder weather. Experts say, should be examined carefully by us during this time of the year for information.
"Keep in mind that it is easier to keep your weight stable than it is to take off the pounds" says Jayne Hurley, RD, senior nutritionist for the nonprofit watchdog group Center for Science in the Public Interest.
The foods that "talk" to us in winter tend to be hearty comforting and holiday favorites that are also often packed with artery-clogging fat, calories, and sodium.

So, the New Year has arrived and it is day 2. Many make their New Years Resolutions and many break them before January 15 each year. Setting realistic goals is the only way to go and forgiveness is the main tool to succeed. This year I decided to set, a few goals have not over the past ten years the main reason is I am very bad at keeping resolutions and goals. One thing I changed this year was the clause with my resolution to use forgiveness with myself when I fail off the set goal. To forgive and move on from that moment insuring I have a good chance of gaining some added strides to accomplish the goal set.
This year is my year of TLC {Tender Loving Care} for self-image I have never considered or took heed to in the past. I am the owner of my body and its performance what I eat is what makes me. How I handle situations in life is the ability to rise above stressful moments I will cross in 2008. After spending time under the Doctors care this past seven months learning that most of my probable problems are now needing medicines and toxins { which I am a earth ecology nut all natural}. I became aware that you could treat the high blood pressure, probable one line off from diabetic, and a few other problems that come with aging simply by changing some habits in eating and my lifestyle.
I decided to create this squidoo lens to help others and myself to find solutions and health tips to keep us on the way to a more TLC year of self. Any suggestions from readers in the comment area will benefit others and me in this journey to making our New Years Resolutions and changes of lifestyle. I will be sharing tips on cooking, recipes, food and nutrition, beauty, exercise and spiritual renewal. I salute the New Year as one of changes.

When we do not eat right.
Sometime we just do not receive from our foods the vital nutrients we need. Studies show our food chain is not producing minerals and nutrients needed to live longer and grow stronger.
Fighting back to the Big "C" {Cancers}
Steam a little green. many studies have been conducted about piles of broccoli help stave off ovarian, stomach, lung, bladder, and colorectal cancers. And steaming it for 3 to 4 minutes enhances the power of the cancer-fighting compound sulforaphane, which has been shown to halt the growth of breast cancer cells. (Sorry, microwaving doesn't do the trick; it strips out most antioxidants.) Get more protection by sprinkling a handful of selenium-rich sunflower seeds, nuts, or mushrooms on your greens. Researchers are discovering that sulforaphane is about 13 times more potent when combined with the mineral selenium.
Some people cannot stand eating broccoli in this case besure you get enough greens out of other foods or try using natural and organic green suppliments from the local health store.
Fish oil is known to play a role in preventing Alzheimer's disease, and UCLA researchers have discovered why.
Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid found in fish oil, increases the production of LR11, a protein that destroys a protein that forms the "plaques" associated with Alzheimer's disease.
LR11 is also found in low levels in Alzheimer's patients, and since this protein helps prevent the toxic plaques that are thought to harm neurons in your brain, it is believed to be a factor in causing the disease.
Do you believe in medications?
Do they cause more damage than good?
Most Astonishing Health Disaster of the 20th Century
For over 100 years conventional medicine has seized control of the US health care system and as a result we have over 800,000 people who are killed by interacting with this system. It is likely that over 50 million Americans have died prematurely from this abuse.

A few years ago, I weighed over 200 lbs at 5'3 that is a lot. My Dr. recently told me you are obese is over 10 lbs your prime weight allowance for size. I did not notice the weight how I looked or felt till I had a picture taken professionally and the huge woman starring at me from that photo blew me away. I started by walking a few more times a day I was so unhealthy at this point it tired me out to walk. Each day I added and forced myself to walk a bit more till, it became 30 minutes etc on up daily. I also took an interest in changing my eating habits and adding more cardio exercise to my schedule. One year half later, I had lost 99 lbs. Feeling better still losing and exercising.

Something to consider Next time you go shopping for lipstick......
This comes from Dr. Nahid Neman who works in the breast cancer unit at Mt.
Sinai Hospital, in Toronto. If there is a female you care anything about,
share this with her. I did!!
Recently a lipstick brand called 'Red Earth' decreased their prices from
$67 to $9.90.
It contained lead. Lead is a chemical that causes cancer.
The lipstick brands that contain lead are:
CHRISTIAN DIOR
LANCOME
CLINIQUE
Y.S.L *
ESTEE LAUDER
SHISEIDO
RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.
The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer.
*After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick
contained the most amount of lead.
Watch out for those lipsticks that are supposed to stay longer. If your
lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead.
Here is the test you can do yourself:
1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick colour changes to black, then you know, the lipstick
contains lead.

My Personal Goals and Quest
My Quest for Health
Learning to care for self and knowing the resources avaialble.
Eating the right food makes a difference almost no one ever realizes the importance of watching the foods we eat. I realized after my self-denial of being obese hit me in the face. I always carried my weight well many did not realize I was a mere 242 lbs and 5'3. Eating as though bird and gaining weight as a youth I always nibbled and ate very little one would wonder how I grew up at all. Problem is birds are always eating and picking up food to eat goes the scale of the nibbling and starving eater.
My problem was what I nibbled all day long never being one for sweets my diet consist of coffee all day long ,fruits, veggies, loads of pasta, meals. I grew up a child of five siblings mom learned lots of casseroles and pasta dishes feed a growing army. I raised my five children much the same way generation repeats generational habits and traditions. Sweets were not a threat problem to me I never craved those much but put down an Italian cuisine and watch plate two finished. Cheese also is a big downfall on my craving lists milk products all those things loaded with cholesterol.
I returned to graduate from high school after leaving 27 years before a drop out. I wanted to prove to myself and to my loved ones so I took on the challenge. On graduation day we had professional pictures taken of us for keepsakes mine is in the bottom drawer in two manila envelopes looked at once and hidden 5 years ago. I was shocked looking much heavier than my mirror revealed my daily appearance. You know how you know but the denial is more powerful I would tire easy when exerting or exercising. However, the raw reality when it stares you in the face is a real wakeup call. Building up the courage to mount the bathroom scale was a fearful moment filled with anxiety. I figured it would level around 170 lbs in my wildest dreams my heart sank when it tilted out 242 lbs. Shocked I stepped off the cold metal lie -detector and made sure it was set and balanced then re-stepped onto it still glared those large numbers 242 lbs. I was devastated and right away made a pact to lose at least 100 lbs starting that moment.
Studying on the affect of diets, I had to choose a diet that would give me lasting results not a fast fad one that would return the weight and more a few months after dieting. For me no diet was the goal instead watching and making good the food choices. Dropping pop was #1 on the list did you know pop is the number one problem with youth obesity today the sugar contents are harmful. Cutting back on those delicious home pasta recipes, I started eating one plate instead of two plates. Exchanging meat categories adding more chicken and fish to my diet regiment. I did not pay to much attention to cholesterol or carbs and started to decrease my intake while increasing my activities and exercise routine with low impact walking and aerobics building my stamina. One year later, I weighed in again 142 lbs and a much happier trooper. Losing weight and becoming healthy is do-able.
According to the national nutrition boards, my weight for my size is still obese and as of this writing, I am continuing the loss of weight. Slowly I am working on the rest of the weight loss needed to reach the perfect weight for my size. Nutritionist and medical profession tell us taking weight off slowly is the way to keep it off reaching our ultimate goals.
Relapse of health unfortunately this past six months brought other concerns from the health professionals end of my lifestyle the damages caused by the lack of concern all those years. Being diagnosed type two- diabetic, along with high cholesterol levels, and high blood pressure gives me motivation to learn as much as I may to eating healthy. By making careful and informed food exchanges and tips on health and eating, I am reaching my goal of the weight loss.
Learning to watch not only calories but also the cholesterol and fats in products, I buy for food consumption. Oh yes and cutting bad carbs and allowing good ones as much as possible. Two birds with one stone theory striving for the perfect weight level for ideal health but I also now need to eat right to control two diseases gained from the previous unhealthy lifestyle I led. If I can do it at 40 and later then others can learn to be healthy. My personal suggestions are read up on health articles and take tips to implement into your lifestyle that works for you. Remember an apple a day keeps the doctor away and walk yes short or long walks breathe deep.
As for the two manila envelopes in the bottom dresser drawer the 8x10 now hangs on the refrigerator door as a reminder of the gains of goals achieved by leaving my comfort zone and moving into the regulated lifestyle of health. A few changes, still eating pasta, and those favorite foods I have always loved eating just thinner and healthier

What Happens to Your Body Within an Hour of Drinking a Coke
soda, soda pop, coca cola, coke, soft drinks, physical effects of drinking cokeDo you want to be healthy? Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can't even state all the consequences. Here's what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:
Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don't vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.
Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.
Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.
Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain - a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.
After 60 minutes, you'll start to have a sugar crash.
