TMJ - Symptoms Treatments Exercises
You may have been told just recently from your dentist that you may have TMJ. TMJ is the abbreviation for temporomandibular joint although this term is also used for the dysfunction of this joint. You probably have been hearing popping and clicking in your jaw. You may have also noticed that your teeth have become more sensitive. This may be due to clenching and grinding your teeth. You may even notice you have stiffness and even pain in your jaw. Headaches are also common with this condition.

Traditional Treatment Options
Your dentist may try to help you with making a dental implant as to save you from grinding down your teeth at night. Although this will most likely not take your pain away. Other treatments can include trying to adjust your bite. If your condition worsens, you will be prescribed pain or anti-inflammatory medications. Surgical procedures may be indicated. The least minimally invasive procedure is called arthrocentesis. This is where the surgeon flushes out the joint and may inject steroids to reduce inflammation. Before you commit yourself to these treatments, you may want to try TMJ exercises. What you are trying to accomplish is to release the tension and strengthening the face muscles. TMJ can cause muscles in your jaw and shoulders to stiffen. This is what causes the pain.
Most TMJ is Caused by Clenching or Grinding of Teeth
Usually a Result of Stress
There are several aids to help you such as meditation; physical exercise, subliminal CDs, and hypnosis.
