Toe Nail Fungus Be Gone!

We all like it when our toes look healthy like these beauties on the right. But as you now know, it is very easy to pick up a toe nail infection.

If your feet are boxed inside your shoes in the summer time excess moisture can cause skin fissures in the cracks between your toes. The fungus that causes your toe nails to warp, discolor, and crumble, can enter through these breaks in the skin.

Make sure your shower box is spotlessly clean, apply vaseline between your toes to trap fungal spores rather than allow them to enter your body. Keep your feet clean and dry!

If your toe nail(s) are becoming thick and discolored it is likely that the fungus is actually living beneath the toe nail. This means you cannot apply any kind of anti-fungal cream to take care of the problem, because your toe nail is shielding the culprit. But all is not lost. Read on.

When I finally decided to go see my doctor about the thickened toe nail on my pinky, it was probably because the Lamisil television commercials I had seen had convinced me that an over the counter treatment was available on demand. I just had to ask for it.

But when I saw my physician, he convinced me that, because of potential side effects (like a damaged kidney or two) due to taking a drug like Lamisil, it really wasn't worth the risk to me just to get a better looking toe nail. So I paid my $100 doctor's fee for a 10 minute consultation and went home empty handed.

Then I read somewhere that the application of Vicks Vapor Rub to the affected toe nail might help. Well, I applied a little on my toe nail each day for a couple of weeks during the summer, when I could afford to go shoeless.

The chemicals in Vicks are very powerful and the effect is to destroy the structure of your toe nail. Eventually it gets so brittle that you can peel it off, which you should, after a couple of weeks.

But if you stop there, upon seeing the pink skin under your nail (which is still infected with the fungus), you'll only end up growing a new toe nail in a few weeks time that ends up as deformed as it was before.

That's the mistake I made. It wasn't until the next summer that I tried this again. This time I continued to apply the Vicks to the skin below my nail for another couple of weeks. This did the trick. When the new nail grew out it turned out to be the healthiest nail of all ten! Complete rejuvenation.

While the Vicks Vapor Rub treatment worked well for me, it's hard to imagine how you can easily follow my suggested toe fungus regime if you don't work at home.
