Toilet Training Toddlers
Toilet Training Your Little Ones can be testing at the best of times, but knowing that there are creative effective methods to achieve results and you are not alone helps parents to cope with this trying time.
In this lens i will cover a few aspects of toilet training toddlers and give you my insights as to how I eventually got it right!
I have loads of friends who have admitted that this was one of the most difficult times for them as parents. There's a lot of pressure to ensure that your child is toilet trained before it has to head off to pre-school or nursery school as you just don't want someone else to have to deal with training your child and you don't want them to feel uncomfortable in their new environment.
So many of my friends have also admitted that it's difficult when you have a child that manages to be trained easily and quickly only to come to a second or third child that is a little slower to grasp the concept. Each of our little bundles of joy ar unique and have unique needs and abilities. So a toilet training program needs to be innovative and creative and varied to cater for different children.

The Loo - Stepping up to the Plate
One little step at a time
For most little ones, toilet training can be a crazy time. A whole new experience awaits them and they are gradually moving into big boys and girls territory. The way you approach those first tentative steps is vital to them feeling comfortable. This process can take a few short weeks or even months and requires a lot of patience and love from both parents. The move from nappies to potties and eventually to a grown-up toilet is often fraut with anxiety for toddlers and it's so important to be supportive and understandingLearning something new is daunting for anyone and when your just little it is so much more so. It's also really important to remember that there is no rush, the race is not on and there are no winners, but if you push too hard, there are often a lot of losers in that your child will shy away from the experience rather then enjoying it or taking in their stride.

How Old is Old Enough To Toilet Train
Toilet training should start somewhere between 18 months and three years of age. A child younger than 18 months might not be able to understand the need to go to the toilet or recognize the urge prior to it arising.A lot of children will begin to mention that they don't want to wear their nappies anymore and this is a good time to start working on pottie training. The first steps to making them feel more comfortable on the pottie and eventually on the toilet is to show them how it's done. This way they won't be embarrased to go while you are in the same room with them. Young children will often mimic their parents and showing them how it's done will help them to do it just like you.
Starting your child on a potty first is most common. A few of my friends have chosen to go straight to the toilet, but sometimes the little ones can be a bit frightened by the size of it, particularly for the girls, who are scared of falling in. If you do want to forgo the potty and go straight for the toilet, remember that your little ones need to feel as if they can conquer the bowl and a little step and a smaller seat are great ways to make it far more accessable for them.
One of the best tips is to encourage your little one to tell you when they need to go and to make it a family event where you both go together - that way they won't have to feel like they are a specticle, but rather that they are just a joint participant in the event. The focus moves away from them having to achieve and rather to everyone being able to do it when they need to.
If at first nothing happens, then don't worry yourself and let them sit until they don't feel the need to any longer. There are going to be a few stops and starts until they recognize the need to go. If at all possible dress them in clothes that they can take off easily by themselves without having to ask for assistance.
Once they start to get the hang of it, you will show them how they need to wipe and also that they need to wash their hands after. It's important to keep supporting the little ones through the entire process, no matter how long it takes and to be understanding when it goes a little wrong and they make a mess. This is the process of growing up and with your support they will be able to get through it - we all do!
