Is It Even Possible To Toilet Train Your Cat?

Toilet training for cats might sound ridiculous to some, but it can save you time and money from having to use the traditional litter box. Information about training your cat to use the toilet became heavily searched for after the 2000 Hollywood movie "Meet The Parents" In which the Robert De Niro's cat Jinx uses the toilet.

Toilet training can be a rewarding experience for you and your cat. Toilet training for cats is accomplished by gradually switching your litter box in place of your toilet. You will have to encourage your cat with praise when he/she successfully uses the toilet. This process can be completed in as little as 3 weeks depending on your involvement.

Are you ready to train your cat to use the toilet instead of the litter box? Read on to find out how...

Toilet Training For Cats - Top Toilet Training Tips

1. Make sure to always keep the lid up when the toilet is not in use. Toilet training for cats will not work if the toilet lid is down.

2. Always keep your bathroom doors open so that your cat will always have access to use them.

3. You will want to slowly move your cats littler box everyday, about 2 feet a day from its normal position. This is to make sure your cat does not become confused and urinate on the floor because he/she can't find the litter box. Your goal here is to eventually move the litter box into the bathroom without upsetting your cat.

4. Once you have the littler box in the bathroom near the toilet, you will want to start raising the littler box higher each day. What your trying to do is get your cat used to going to the bathroom at a higher level or jumping up.

5. Next step is to put the littler box directly on the toilet seat itself, once you have raised the littler box to the level of the toilet seat.

6. Now you will want to get some kind of bowl or something to put inside the toilet that won't fall into the water. A metal cake baking bowl will work best for this step. Remove the littler box and hid where your cat won't find it. Place the the bowl inside the toilet and put about an inch or two of litter on the bowl.

7. There you have it, your cat should begin to use the toilet on his own now. After a few days or so just remove the bowl entirely, and your cat should continue to use the toilet on his own. If for some reason your cat will not use the toilet, simply put the littler box back on top of the toilet seat and start again from there. You will eventually have much success toilet training for cats you own. And a lot more time on your hands now that you don't have to change littler boxes any more!
