Information about J.R.R. Tolkien.

Almost everybody has heard of J.R.R. Tolkien. The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings; etc are all things that come to mind when you hear the name Tolkien. I created this website in the hopes to provide you with my thoughts and additional information about Tolkien.

Tolkien was a writer and an artist; his work was the beginning of many things. Many of the novels that exist today, I feel are based on elements that were in Tolkiens' works. For instance, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance; etc all were probably influenced by Tolkien. So I see Tolkien as the father of the current fantasy genre. Well, maybe the grandfather.

In all honesty, I didn't know much of Tolkien until my senior year in highschool. I chose to write my English research paper on him. Being an avid reader of fiction, I was surprised to see all of the similarities between his books and the novels that I read. Suffice it to say, I was quite glad that I chose to do my research paper on Tolkien.

It was interesting to read about Tolkien's past. Tolkien was quite gifted at art and writing, but it was said that he was also somewhat lazy. Still, I think he did quite well for a lazy person. Dreaming up fantasy worlds and putting them to paper and ink can be quite challenging. Tolkien even created his own languages called Languages of Arda.

The only book I've read about Tolkien was the one I was required to read for my English research paper. It was the Hobbit, and I felt that it was more for children. I didn't dislike it, but it just didn't appeal to me. However, Tolkien still fascinated me. When The Lord of the Rings movies started showing, I was very impressed. The movies were truly well done, and perfect for someone like me.

Anyway, I'm glad that I discovered Tolkien. He dreamed up a new world for people, which led to even more new worlds to be created. Without Tolkien, I feel that the fantasy novels of today would be greatly lacking.
