TOMS Shoes Sale: Why Shoes?
In 2006, TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie was traveling through Argentina, where he realized that many children had no shoes to protect their feet. The leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted parasites which penetrate the skin through open sores. Wearing shoes can lower the risk of disease.Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.
One simple solution comes to mind...SHOES.
This inspired Blake to start TOMS Shoes and the One for One business model, in which for every pair of shoes sold, a pair is given to a child in need. A year after Blake's visit to Argentina, he returned with 10,000 pairs of shoes for the children thanks to caring customers like yourself.
Today, TOMS Shoes have been distributed to over 150,000 children around the globe. In 2009, the goal is to give away 300,000 more pairs.
