Tony Payne Writes On Yahoo Voices

Yahoo Voices is according to them:

The official digital library of Yahoo Contributor Network. It contains more than 2 million articles, videos, and slideshows created by a diverse community of topic experts and enthusiasts. All contributors to the site earn money based on the amount of traffic their published content receives. Associated Content was closed and was replaced by Yahoo! Voices in December 2011.

I joined a great band of writers on 12th January 2010 back when Yahoo Voices was Associated Content and since that time I have written and published over 700 articles and slideshows. This Squidoo lens is a showcase for the articles that I have written on Yahoo Voices. I hope that you have time to browse my list of articles and to read a few of them.

What Topics Does Tony Payne Write About?

Some authors concentrate on writing about one or two topics, but with me it's different.

There are many topics that I would like to be writing about, but with a full time job as well, there is barely enough time in the day to write articles on 10% of the topics that I would like to. That makes it necessary to be selective as to what I do actually write about.

The second factor that affects that I write about is that I do suffer to an extent with A.D.D. - Attention Deficit Disorder. This means that even though I ought to or want to write about one thing, I am drawn to write about something else instead. Because of this, I rarely know in advance what I am going to write about on a given day.

How Do I Get My Ideas For Articles?

I get my ideas come to me in the shower, listening to the radio on the way to work, watching the clouds, reading the news for the day on the internet. My ideas come to me in so many different ways really.

I write what I am motivated and inspired to write about, which could be news or entertainment articles, random thoughts, pet peeves, things that have happened in my life, and so on.

So as a result my collection of articles is on a whole mish-mash of topics. I guess it helps to make it interesting. Well at least I hope it does.

I Don't Have A.D.D.

How To Deal With Writer's Block

I sometimes get writer's block and have trouble thinking of something to write about.

When this happens, I either try to write about having writer's block, or rhymes come into my head, and I just go with the flow and soon get an article written.

My Articles On Yahoo Voices

Did You Know?

Writing articles can be a good way to help promote your Squidoo lenses

Did You Know?

Sometimes writing an article gives you ideas for creating new Squidoo lenses.

Lenses Inspired By Articles I Have Written

These lenses were created after writing articles about something and then realising that this would make a good subject for a lens. You never know where your inspiration is going to come from.

Loading

Topical Articles

These can get you a lot of traffic in a short time, but once the topic is no longer newsworthy, the article can be as good as dead.
For example: News Items, Sporting Events.

Seasonal Articles

These can generate a lot of traffic at a given time of the year (Christmas, Valentines Day) but then lie dormant for the rest of the year.

Evergreen Articles

These might not give you large volumes of traffic, but they consistently provide traffic (and earnings) throughout the year.
For example: Recipes, Home Maintenance, Travel Guides.

A Drizzly Wednesday Morning

This is a poem that came into my head driving to work one miserable wet Wednesday morning.

It's a drizzly Wednesday morning
I'd rather stay in bed
But the alarm went off at 6:30am
And it's off to the office instead

Outside it's dark and gloomy
House lights all are on
The town is headed off to work
Before the dawn's begun

The roads are filled with cars
Their headlights brightly lit
Like a procession under torchlight
Headed through the night

Up the hill and down the hill
Then queue to get over the bridge
Around some bends, across the lights
Then up along the ridge

Today the traffic is moving
No accidents or delays
I reach the office timely
It's just another day

I'd rather be in bed though
And relaxing there at home
Writing, promoting, surfing
And letting my mind just roam

I really enjoy writing
And it earns me extra bread
But this alone won't pay the bills
And keep the family fed

So it's off to the office as usual
On another gloomy day
Fixing computer problems
For another day of pay

But i'd rather dream of sunshine
And walking on the beach
One day when I win the lottery
That dream might be in reach.

Limericks Are Fun To Write

This is a fun example of my attempts at writing humorous poetry

This is the story of Romeo and Juliet retold in Limerick form...

Act One: Outside The Slap And Tickle Nightclub

There was a young girl from Genoa
Who was rumored to be a real go-er
When Romeo tried
To pinch her backside
She told him to go a bit slower.

Act Two Three Months Later

Now Juliet is in quite a state
Her period is several months late
She let Romeo give her
Too much of his quiver
And now she is putting on weight

The End

My Slideshows On Yahoo Voices

A Picture Paints A Thousand Words

Never underestimate the power of images in your articles.
Use your own images if possible.
Sometimes annotated slideshows work better than just using images within articles.

Thoughts For Thursday

This was inspired by sitting in traffic on my way to work on a wet and miserable morning.

Another Thursday morning
Another day of work

The rain is lashing against the windshield
As the radio begins to play "Margueritaville"

It's rare to hear Jimmy Buffet in the UK
It seems so out of place on this rainy day

The song takes me back to Key West
Watching the sun set in Mallory Square

The beach at Bahia Honda Key
A glorious long weekend two years ago

But then the traffic comes to another halt
And jogs me back to reality

Another Thursday morning
Another day of work
