Pianist and Composer Tony Foster

Ranked #16,661 in Music, #485,824 overall

Pianist and composer Tony Foster was born in Vancouver Canada, and grew up playing classical piano and trumpet in high school. His first discoveries of jazz were when he played the trumpet and was introduced to the music of Miles Davis, Clifford Brown, Charlie Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie. Tony played trumpet until his third year of university at the University of British Columbia, where he was an MIS (management information systems) major in the Commerce Program!---That's right---NOT THE MUSIC PROGRAM---BUSINESS!.....Anyways, further down the road (after graduating from UBC with his business degree), Tony eventually settled on the piano as his focus, and now makes his living as a jazz pianist and composer. Along the way, Tony has had the pleasure of performing with some jazz greats such as vocalist Ernestine Anderson, saxophonist Red Holloway, vocalist Sheila Jordan, drummer Jeff Hamilton, and bassist Peter Washington.
