The Tooth Fairy Legend - Child's Favorite Fairy
Ranked #292 in Parenting & Kids, #10,746 overall | Donates to Dog Tags for Kids
Tooth Fairy Lore, Kids Dental Health, Caring for Baby Teeth
For parents, the arrival and loss of a child's first tooth are important milestones. A baby's first tooth usually arrives at about 6 months. Kids lose their first baby tooth between the ages of 5 and 7. Then it's time for the Tooth Fairy to start visiting.
Most kids are a bit anxious about losing their first baby tooth, but after they know what it's like and that it really does not hurt to lose a baby tooth that's ready to come out. The rewards left in exchange by the Tooth Fairy also help kids to enjoy playing with wiggly teeth and pulling them when they're ready to come out.

Throw Your Tooth on the Roof: Tooth Traditions from Around the World

The world is full of other, equally fascinating myths and traditions about what happens to children's teeth when they come out. If you come from Chile or Costa Rica, your parents will have the tooth made into a charm. If you're Venezuelan, you put the tooth under your pillow and hope that a mouse brings you money. Lots more, many pictures. Ages 4-8.
All I Want for Christmas is My 2 Front Teeth
We all go through the missing teeth stage ... some earlier than others
Baby teeth start to fall out around age 6 or 7. By the time kids reach the age of 12 or 13, most have lost their last baby tooth, replaced by a mouth full of permanent teeth. Many youngsters need to wear braces to realign crooked teeth or make room for the final adult molars.I managed to lose my first tooth very early. I was a very active child; I lost two of my front baby teeth in separate play accidents before I was 3 years old. I don't recall whether the tooth fairy left me a gift for those early lost baby teeth, but I do know that the missing teeth didn't prevent me from chomping the ears off chocolate rabbits at Easter time, not one bit.
For quite a few years my answer to the question, "What Do You Want for Christmas?" was yes, you guessed it - "My 2 Front Teeth". Not long after those 2 permanent front teeth finally arrived, I was regretting my wish - I had to wear braces for a couple years to correct a distinctly horsey overbite.

Got a tooth fairy story to share?
Do you have a favorite story about losing baby teeth? I'm happy to say I did finally get all my permanent teeth. For some weird reason, I only ever developed 2 wisdom teeth. And I still have 1 of them!

- I have a co-worker who's kids were terrified of the notion a "tooth fairy" sneaks into the their room when they slept. The fear does make sense.

- I remember when I was 5, the dentist suggested not to pull out my front baby tooth. Now 28 years later, I have an overlapping front tooth. Very disappointed.

- I remember that my dentist pulled out my front teeth, two of them at once. And it was great because I learned how to whistle! You can imagine how dissapointed was I, when my new teeth grew...))

- Great lens. Children should visit the childrens dentist at an early age to promote good dental health and treat any dental problems before they become serious.

- Too bad all baby teeth don't fall out in August, when there are no holidays to celebrate. We always celebrated my children's loss of baby teeth. My husband and I and all our children never got wisdom teeth. Must be some kind of "record." S/A Blessed.

- We should start a holiday for August - Tooth Day! I only had wisdom teeth on one side, and I still have the lower one. The upper was very small and erupted on its own so the dentist easily removed it. He told me that the medical theory re: missing wisdom teeth is an evolutionary marker - I guess that means your family is more highly evolved than others! Thank you so much for the blessing ...
