What a fabulous movie Tootsie was. It takes me back to 1982 and remains one of my favorite films of all time.

Tootsie is a 1982 comedy film that tells the story of a talented but volatile actor whose reputation for being difficult forces him to go to extreme lengths to land a job. The movie stars Dustin Hoffman and Jessica Lange, with a supporting cast that includes Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Charles Durning, Bill Murray, Sydney Pollack, George Gaynes, Lynne Thigpen and Geena Davis (in her film debut). Tootsie was adapted by Larry Gelbart, Barry Levinson (uncredited), Elaine May (uncredited) and Murray Schisgal from the story by Gelbart. It was directed by Pollack. It is an example of a classical comedy.
In 1998 the United States Library of Congress deemed the film ?culturally significant? and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry. The theme song to the film, "It Might Be You" by singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop, was a Top 40 hit in the U.S.

(born August 8, 1937) is an American actor who has had an active career in film, television, and theatre since 1960. He first drew critical praise for the 1966 Off-Broadway play Eh? for which he won a Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk Award. This was soon followed by his breakout movie role as Ben Braddock in the 1967 film The Graduate. After the success of this film, Hoffman's career has largely been focused in cinema with only sporadic returns to television and the stage. Some of his more important films are Midnight Cowboy (1969), Little Big Man (1970), Lenny (1974), All the President's Men (1976), Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Tootsie (1982), Rain Man (1988), Hook (1991), Sleepers (1996), Wag the Dog (1997), and Last Chance Harvey'' (2008).
Respected for his versatility, Hoffman has won two Academy Awards, six Golden Globes, three BAFTAs, three Drama Desk Awards, and an Emmy Award.

The "Tootsie" Soundtrack was released in the US on cassette and LP. The CD never quite made it to the US. In 1991, Tootsie was re-released on CD in Japan. An avid "Tootsie" fan such as myself can find the import albums on eBay touting a hefty pricetag typically ranging from $50.00 to $90.00.

But before he did, he took an acting course because he was told that "nobody flunks acting." Also received some training at Los Angeles Conservatory of Music.
