Ranked #355 in Family, #8,289 overall

This is my personal top ten list of Disney Characters.

You'll notice that they're older characters. I grew up with most of these and then introduced my children to the rest of them.

A large number of Disney's characters are taken from old European stories and fairy tales written by such authors as The Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson.

I hope you'll enjoy looking through my list and maybe add your top Disney Characters to the list near the bottom of the lens.

Lady And The Tramp

My Top Ten list of Disney Characters are in no particular order... apart from the first one - Lady And The Tramp.

This was the first film I saw at the cinema and still remember the excitement I felt being taken there by my parents. However, I remember very little of the film apart from seeing two lovely dogs falling in love.

Lady and the Tramp is a 1955 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and released to theaters on June 22, 1955, by Buena Vista Distribution. The fifteenth animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, it was the first animated feature filmed in the CinemaScope widescreen film process. The story centers on a female American Cocker Spaniel named Lady who lives with a refined, upper middle-class family, and a male stray mutt called the Tramp.

Mickey Mouse

How could I have a top ten list and not include Mickey? Of course, Mickey has had different looks over the years but he's one I remember quite clearly from my childhood

Mickey Mouse is a cartoon character who has become an icon for The Walt Disney Company. Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks and voiced by Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Company celebrates his birth as November 18, 1928 upon the release of Steamboat Willie, although Mickey had already appeared six months earlier in Plane Crazy (Steamboat Willie being the first Mickey Mouse Cartoon with sound). The anthropomorphic mouse has evolved from being simply a character in animated cartoons and comic strips to become one of the most recognizable symbols in the world. Mickey is currently the main character in the Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney series "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse." Mickey is the leader of The Mickey Mouse Club.

Winnie The Pooh

I grew up with a set of Winnie The Pooh story books and knew the character through the stories of A.A.Milne, rather than Disney. But I have to say, seeing him brought to life on screen does add to the magic.

Winnie the Pooh

:For other pages about the Winnie-the-Pooh scenario, see Winnie-the-Pooh (disambiguation).

Winnie-the-Pooh, commonly shortened to Pooh Bear or simply Pooh, and once referred to as Edward Bear, is a fictional bear created by A. A. Milne. The first collection of stories about the character was the book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), and this was followed by The House at Pooh Corner (1928). Milne also included a poem about the bear in the children's verse book When We Were Very Young (1924) and many more in Now We Are Six (1927). All four volumes were illustrated by E. H. Shepard.

The hyphens in the character's name were later dropped when The Walt Disney Company adapted the Pooh stories into a series of Winnie the Pooh featurettes that became one of the company's most successful franchises worldwide: see Winnie the Pooh (Disney).

The Pooh stories have been translated into many languages, notably including Alexander Lenard's Latin translation, Winnie ille Pu, which was first published in 1958, and, in 1960, became the first foreign-language book to be featured on the New York Times Best Seller List, and is the only book in Latin ever to have been featured therein.

Snow White

If I saw the Snow White film once at the cinema, I probably saw it twenty times. I remember hoping that I'd grow up to be as beautiful as her! Of course, Snow White is a typical female character that Disney loves to bring to life through the media of film.

Snow White

Snow White, the beautiful princess. This video will show you how to look like her for Halloween. I must remind you, I forgot to bring my mirror, so if I made any mistakes, please bear with me. Using the reflection of the swivel camera is not easy. It's tiny! Don't bite the apple! As for the ramen at the end, I was Hungry! I don't like the taste of apples...I had to eat Ramen. Snow White (in German Schneewittchen) is a fairy tale known from many countries in Europe, the best known version being the German one collected by the Brothers Grimm. The German version features elements such as the magic mirror and the seven dwarfs, who were first given individual names in Disney's 1937 film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The story of Snow White and the dwarfs should not be confused with the story of Snow White and Rose Red (in German Schneeweißchen und Rosenrot), another fairy tale that was also collected by the Brothers Grimm.

In the Aarne-Thompson folklore classification, tales of this kind are grouped together as type 709, Snow White. Others of this kind include Bella Venezia, Myrsina, Nourie Hadig, The Young Slave and Gold-Tree and Silver-Tree.Heidi Anne Heiner, "Tales Similar to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" "The Jealous Sisters" is another Albanian fairy tale. In both fairy tales the death is caused by a ring.

In the many non-German versions, the dwarfs are generally robbers, while the magic mirror is a dialog with the sun or moon. In a version from Albania, collected by Johann George von Hahn and published in Griechische und albanesische Märchen. Gesammelt, übersetzt and erläutert (1864), the main character lives with 40 dragons. Her sleep is caused by a ring. The beginning of the story has a twist, in that a teacher urges the heroine to kill her evil stepmother so that she would take her place. The origin of this tale is debated; it is likely no older than the Middle Ages. In fact there are possibly two Albanian versions of Snow White: one where her stepmother tries to kill her, and another where her two jealous sisters try to kill her.

Bambi

Bambi is the sweetest character. Watching his on screen antics made me fall in love with him within seconds. I remember how his legs splayed as he tried to balance. Of course, I think this is my earliest memory of sobbing my heart out at a film.

Bambi is a 1942 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and based on the book Bambi, A Life in the Woods by Austrian author Felix Salten. The film was released by RKO Radio Pictures on August 13, 1942, and it is the fifth film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series.

The main characters are Bambi, a white-tailed deer, his parents (the Great Prince of the forest and his unnamed mother), his friends Thumper (a pink-nosed rabbit), and Flower (a skunk), and his childhood friend and future mate, Faline. For the movie, Disney took the liberty of changing Bambi's species into a white-tailed deer from his original species of roe deer, since roe deer don't inhabit the United States, and the white-tailed deer is more familiar to Americans. This film received three Academy Award nominations for Best Sound, Best Song for "Love Is a Song" and Original Music Score.

In June 2008, the American Film Institute presented a list of its "10 Top 10"?the best ten films in each of ten "classic" American film genres?after polling over 1,500 people from the creative community. Bambi placed third in animation.

Donald Duck

Donald Duck was on television a lot back in the 60's and 70's. I remember trying to impersonate him but never did quite manage it! Of course, I really enjoyed it when he became an Uncle and the antics his nephews got up to all to try the patience of their beloved Uncle Donald

Donald Duck is an American cartoon character from The Walt Disney Company. Donald is a white anthropomorphic duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet. He usually wears a sailor shirt, cap, and a red bow tie, but no trousers(except when he goes swimming). Donald's most famous personality trait is his easily provoked and explosive temper. Donald Duck has been officially honored as the third most popular cartoon character of all time with Bugs Bunny of Warner Bros. Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies at number two and fellow Disney creation Mickey Mouse who is number one.

According to the Disney canon, particularly in the 1942 short Donald Gets Drafted Donald's birthday is officially recognized as June 9, 1934, the day his debut film, The Wise Little Hen, was released. However, in The Three Caballeros (1944), his birthday is given as simply "Friday the 13th", which is in reference to the bad luck he experiences in almost all his cartoon appearances. Donalds Happy Birthday (short) gives his birthday as March 13. Donald Duck is a well-known and very popular character especially in Scandinavian countries.

Donalds voice, one of the most identifiable voices in all of animation, was performed by voice actor Clarence "Ducky" Nash up to his death in 1985. It was largely this semi-intelligible speech that would cement Donald's image into audiences' minds and help fuel both Donald's and Nash's rise to stardom. In 1969, Disney On Parade which toured all over the United States and Canada, hired Ellard Davis as the live voice of Donald Duck. Mr. Davis did the voice for 3 years. Since 1985, Donald has been voiced by Tony Anselmo, who was trained by Nash for the role. Donald is a V.I.P. member of the Mickey Mouse Club.

Nemo

Nemo is of course the character from 'Finding Nemo' . He's a cute little clown fish. Nemo is one that my son actually enjoyed and had me watch with him. How could I not include Nemo?

Finding Nemo is a 2003 American computer-animated film written by Andrew Stanton, directed by Stanton and Lee Unkrich and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios. It tells the story of the overly protective clownfish Marlin, voiced by Albert Brooks, who along with a regal tang called Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, searches for his son Nemo, voiced by Alexander Gould. Along the way he learns to take risks and that his son is capable of taking care of himself.

The film received overwhelmingly positive reviews and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It was a financial blockbuster as it grossed over $864 million worldwide. It is the best-selling DVD of all time, with over 40 million copies sold as of 2006Boone, Louis E. Contemporary Business 2006, Thomson South-Western, page 4 - ISBN 0324320892 and is the highest grossing G-rated movie of all time. In 2008, the American Film Institute named it the tenth greatest animated film ever made during their 10 Top 10. It was also the first Pixar animations studio film not to be released in November.AFI: 10 Top 10

Sleeping Beauty

I grew up reading about Sleeping Beauty rather than watching her on screen. My second daughter however was in love with this Disney beauty and was enthralled by the film.

Sleeping Beauty is a American animated feature produced by Walt Disney and based on the fairy tale "La Belle au bois dormant" by Charles Perrault. It was released to theatres on January 29, 1959 by Buena Vista Distribution. The sixteenth animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, it was the last fairy tale produced by Walt Disney (after his death, the studio returned to the genre with 1989's The Little Mermaid).

The film was directed by Les Clark, Eric Larson, and Wolfgang Reitherman, under the supervision of Clyde Geronimi. The film was based on the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty by Charles Perrault, with additional story work by Joe Rinaldi, Winston Hibler, Bill Peet, Ted Sears, Ralph Wright, and Milt Banta. The film's musical score and songs, featuring the work of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, are arrangements or adaptations of numbers from the 1890 Sleeping Beauty ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Sleeping Beauty was the first animated feature to be photographed in the Technirama widescreen process. The film was presented in Super Technirama 70 and 6-channel stereophonic sound in first-run engagements. Only one other animated film, Disney's The Black Cauldron, was shot in Technirama.

Princess Aurora, the film's titular character, appears for fewer than eighteen minutes in the film (excluding the time she appears as an infant at the beginning).

Baloo

This is a character that my son really introduced me too. Although I was aware of Baloo in the Jungle Book, I never really took much notice until my son became ADDICTED to the film. Of course, I found myself laughing along at Baloo's antics and then we'd dance and sing along to 'The Bare Necessities' . How could you not love Baloo?

Baloo is the fictional bear featured in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book.

Cinderella

I probably was first introduced to the story of Cinderella through British Pantomime at the theatre. My heart melted for her sad character and I desperately wanted to help her. Of course, Disney brought her story to life as only Disney can.

Cinderella (French: Cendrillon) is a well-known classic folk tale embodying a myth-element of unjust oppression/triumphant reward. Thousands of variants are known throughout the world.Jack Zipes, The Great Fairy Tale Tradition: HELP!, p 444, ISBN 0-393-97636-X The title characterAlthough both the storys title and the character's name change in different languages, in English-language folklore "Cinderella" is the archetypal name. is a young woman living in unfortunate circumstances which suddenly change to remarkable fortune. The word "Category: wiktionary - :cinderella|cinderella" has, by analogy, come to mean one whose attributes are unrecognised, or one who unexpectedly achieves recognition or success after a period of obscurity and neglect. The still-popular story of Cinderella continues to influence popular culture internationally, lending plot elements, allusions, and tropes to a wide variety of media.
