According to The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), "Specific phobia involves marked and persistent fear and avoidance of a specific object or situation". It is a strong, irrational fear of something that actually poses little to no actual danger. It's interesting to note that women are more apt to suffer from phobias than men.
*Approximately 19.2 million American adults age 18 and over, or about 8.7% of people in this age group in a given year, have some type of specific phobia.
*Specific phobia typically begins in childhood; the median age of onset is 7 years old.

- I used to have pretty bad acrophobia... I still don't particularly like heights, but I'm certainly better than I was. Great work on this lens!
